Full, Although I am not a fan of Ocasio-Cortez, I will be glad to explain the difference. Socialism is a term used to explain a high number of different political- social philosophies. The term " democratic socialism " is one of those philosophies. Democratic socialism gives up power, when defeated in a democratic e******n. It follows the Constitution of the US. Generally, it does not support the undemocratic tenants of more revolutionary socialism. It doesn't believe in violent revolution, the prohibition of private ownership of the means of distribution of goods and services, atheism, etc. Unlike the Trump cult, it doesn't believe in a cult of personality. The term of democratic socialism means different things to different people. They seem to have several things in common, a progressive tax system that doesn't favor the wealthy, One payer health insurance, more public funds going to public schools, the right of freedom of choice for women, etc.
While I am not a socialist, I do think that " democratic socialism " it far more democratic and pro people than Trump.
