Do these words have any use or meaning in what we are doing in our quest for the t***h on this forum?

To a person we all seem to think we have problems. Yet we for the most part stand divided.

If people like us can not Stand as United on the issues at hand.

If we will surely just keep falling.

I would guess that I need to ask just who you are going to fight against?

Loyalty is an admirable trait to be sure. However, my question to you is "would you be willing to reach across the aisle" if that's what it took to make this country whole again? We seem to have been fighting for such a long time. Do you personally see that it has gotten us anywhere, other than to dig the divide between us deeper and more foul?

I think what you and Floyd have written is wonderful, and I agree. I do have one caveat. I have a hard time reaching across the aisle to people who support weakening our liberties. Comment?

Well, I'll agree with you as well -- our liberties, most precious. However, I'll play "devil's advocate" here. Might it be possible that in reaching across the aisle, those on the other side "might" be at least willing to look seriously at what others are saying, instead of countering harsh words with angry words and "perhaps" a meeting of the minds could be possible? I have said many times that coming here as a liberal (in reality, who knows what I am, even I don't know any more) that some of my perceptions have changed. I have come to realize that even when the most outrageously outspoken have tempered their speech, it has made me stop and actually think about the concept they were trying to get across. It sometimes leads me to even wonder what else I might have missed.

Of course it would be possible. Practically the only thing really divergent in the beliefs of left and right is the subject of "rights". Rights cover so much that I believe most people don't even understand them. I honestly believe the American public needs some classes on our "rights". Many people think that if they want something it is their "right" to have it. Rights come with us as human creatures. They are birth rights. None of us has a right to an IPod, or a tv, or a hot meal. ALL of us has a right to speak what we believe without repercussion. ALL of us are equal under the law, even though some lawyers, judges, and politicians don't grasp that. NONE of us has a right to a home. None of us has a right to a membership in anything. None of us is entitled to a college education. All of these things are NOT rights, but privileges. And no one is entitled to a privilege.
Etc.

I, too, have changed a bit of my thinking since I started blogging a few years ago. I was a dyed in the wool opponent of legalizing drugs BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY WERE A BAD THING. Then because of re-thinking, I decided legalization was a good answer to lots of our woes - but more important than that, I came to realize that I have no right to insist others think like I think. Before that, I had praised and defended the Patriot Act because I trusted President Bush would not abuse it. Someone on line asked me if I expected him to be President the rest of my life - thinking about it, I began criticizing the Patriot Act, and particularly now that our government is totally irresponsible.

You and I could, together, find solutions.

I will not reach across the aisle. But I will meet you in the middle of the aisle. I don't need the safety of my camp & you must show me that you don't need the safety of you camp.

Then you & I will set a path together with any that wish to join us never to return to the old ways.

But of course we both have done & will do good things & we will bring the best of what each has to offer.

But sadly you are going to leave us at the moment of our great adventure.

Floyd, that is the most beautiful invitation I have ever read or heard.

Oh, you make my leaving difficult, you do. You would truly put the "Pied Piper" to shame, of that there is no doubt in my mind.

Just so you know (was there ever any doubt?) with regard to that path you speak of -- I consider I am an island unto myself, no camp of any kind do I claim ANY more -- so to your suggestion of meeting in the middle, "yes, "I" would meet you," and the thought of taking others with us, "probably" somewhat a mixture of fantasy and wishful thinking, but nevertheless, a firm belief do I have that there is still "something" SO innately "good" out there -- worth the effort of making it work, absolutely, with no hesitation!! I see and it is obvious that Tasine sees it -- through your eyes -- the possibility of this meeting in the middle. I'd like to think a seed has been planted.

Thank you so much. I think it is important for us to listen to others for common ground.

It is not about our changing any ones mind on issues but listen to what others have to say. It is not to look for areas to disagree but to comment on areas that we agree with.

We just let others see what we have to say & perhaps they may be areas they can agree with.

I am not looking to change any thing about your thoughts or views. I will read what you have to say & if I like the way you say it I will say so.

If you would do the same with me & others that is all I ask of any one.
