It's still ok to visit if you're looking for adventure.
Stay far away from LA, but San Francisco is good for a day visit.
All of California's national parks are awesome.
And some of the little towns near the parks are picturesque and offer reasonable amenities.

I was a piper in a highland pope band and we never missed marching in the St Paddy's parade in San Fran. There was a Scottish pub on Grant St called the Edinburgh Castle, live Scottish and Irish music and the lassies would dance. Best fish and chips in town. Guinness on tap. Oh yeah, Wolf, those were the good ol days.

My grandfather lived in Costa Mesa for 98 years.

When families get away from the teachings of Christ in the homes and churches are being closed when they were the steadfast of all families back then.. the DEVIL marches in and takes over where SIN reigns and every one has lost their 'values' of decency. You can't blame the kids and young adults... they had no Christian upbringing as to morals and of Christ. It will only get worse... not better. Look at that Great Church in Houston, which lost it's pastor cause of him not allowing people in there during a massive flood of waters where people needed to go to get to higher land..
