Tilting at windmills

How many years have we endured speech after speech delivered by a candidate promising to "change how business is done in DC", or some similar claim? You know, folks promising to bring back reason, common sense, decorum, t***sparency, accountability, blah, blah, blah, to the Federal Government. I didn't bother to research beyond 10 years, but was clear that it has been at least that long, year after year. Here's the question; after electing a whole slew of folks making the same sorts of promises - why are things the same, or more accurately, worse?

The sad t***h is that no single person, no matter how well intentioned or dedicated, can change the government juggernaut in any significant way. Even an entire caucus of folks cannot make much of an impact. It's like tilting at windmills. For those who don't know what "tilting" means, it is the term describing a horseman attacking an opponent with a lance. After a decade ( at least ) of folks campaigning against the status quo, establishment, career politicians, etc., not only have no improvements been seen - but the status quo, establishment, etc. are further entrenched.

All of us must recognize this fact, whether we're pleased with it or not, so - why do we continue to buy into the campaigns of candidates promising that they can change what cannot be changed? Even the most zealous anti establishment candidate will be quickly brought to heel once elected, we know this to be true, because we've seen it happen time after time, and EVERY time. It starts with small compromises " give me this and I'll give you that ", then escalates " sign on to this, or you're out ". There's a whole separate government operation going on behind the scenes, where the real work ( if you can call it that ) is done - and we only get to see the plays written for the cameras and public record.

Another sad t***h is this; the only truly viable solution to the corrupt system of governance we have, is to remove every single democrat and republican from every branch and level of government. A very tall order that. Here's another sad but true fact; we will never rid ourselves of democrats and republicans in government, the odds are 100% in their favor - they've had over 150 years to make it so. Even if a concerted effort was made to replace dems and repubs with independents...................how could we be 100% sure that these candidates were truly independent, and not dem or repub plants? The fear that "the other side" could make a power grab on the sly, would cause us to fall back to where we always go - making the same kinds of choices we always do - then complaining because those choices didn't give us what we really wanted.

If we always do what we've always done, we'll continue to get what we always get, and no amount of empty promises will make a difference.

Nothing will change until special interest money, legal bribes and gerrymandering are removed from government.

Nothing will "change" ?

Wasn't the former spook president supposed to bring " change ".

You dupes believed it and now you're crying and blubbering about nothing changing.

Well things ARE changing under the new leader of the free world.

And you blue goobers are too busy crying and complaining to recognize that everything is changing now.

We already got rid of the two biggest i***ts that ever stepped foot in DC.

Trump has changed things probably more than any president in recent history. His cabinet choices were seemingly picked as the least capable of doing the job with the highest propensity for destroying and demolishing the agency they are in charge of.

Pruitt, his number one conflict of interest, not to mention reason for not heading the environmental protection agency, was that he had a troubled history as AG for Oklahoma. He had close to a dozen lawsuits against the EPA non behalf of oil and gas companies fighting EPA restrictions. Just the fact that Pruitt would be stepping in as head of the agency to where he could make decisions to settle on the lawsuits he had brought should have been all it took to red f**g his nomination.

DeVoss, several billion dollar business that gets government funding for school related consulting
several wallstreet figures in charge of finance positions
CFPB head adamantly opposed to the agency and pro banking industry
HUD, Carson has already given a son in law a half billion consulting contract
Kushner and Ivanka, already have their snouts deep in the trough

Trump has taken the art of lining up for government funds to a new banana republic level

Convention of States. If we all get involved that's when the major changes can happen. I have signed the petition for my state, Arkansas. Everyone needs to just sign the petition and we can move forward.

Well, I'm glad to see that someone remains optimistic, although what you said has nothing to do with the topic. Washington is the same cesspool it's always been..............Trump has just managed to introduce more sewage to the mix. Wait a minute! Trump ran on the same stupid stuff I mentioned here, changing how Washington works, draining swamps, blah, blah, blah, and hasn't done a single thing.

If you think things are changing for the better, either you aren't paying attention or you're delusional as hell.

That kind of stuff changes with each new administration, and are not the changes I was referring to. Is there more diplomacy? Is there more t***sparency? Is there more common sense and reason? Is there more simple politeness? Nope, it's even more nasty than ever.

Mitch stated that he'd bring back regular order when he became majority leader - then threw out the rule book and began running the Senate like a Mafia don.

Trump did not create this environment..............the swamp monsters connected their swamp to the waste water system and flushed Trump out into their cesspool.

Cleaning house and starting fresh, probably be fun to watch.
Hard to imagine it would ever happen.
