"He said to them, 'But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.'"
Evidence for self-defense or owning a weapon? Are you sure? Read.
Just the opposite.
Very, very, very funny; needed that. Thank you
Sorry, I was hoping you would go to scripture for the answer. Two disciples out of twelve say they have a weapon and Jesus says, "That is enough." How is that enough? Why would Jesus say that "is enough"?
He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." (Luke22:36)
Seems a clear indication for the right to bear arms and defend oneself. Yet is it? The Right seems to bask in surface analysis and policy, like the Trump administration, and overlook specifics ofwhat the Bible actually offers.
Christ then quoted from Isaiah 53:12, where the prophet foretold that he, Christ himself, would be “reckoned with t***sgressors,” i.e., treated as a common sinner. The larger context of Isaiah 53 reveals that in implementing Heaven’s gracious plan of redemption, the lamb of God would do “no violence” (Is. 53:9). His example in dealing with hostility was to be their model. But by having any weapons in his fold, even two, he would be "reckoned with t***sgressors."
When the authorities came to arrest Jesus, Peter attempted to defend his Master with his sword, and the Savior sternly rebuked his apostle for the effort (Mt. 26:51-52). He who lives by the NRA, shall die...oops, sorry, he who lives by the sword, shall die by the sword. Are assault rifles exempt because they are not swords? Bump stocks were never mentioned in the Bible: clear sailing theologically?
Ow for gun advocates and the NRA. And for others who read this, balderdash.

If they had done it then we would all still be in our sins...but what about them time to sell one's cloak and buy a sword?

Sorry, that makes zero sense. I already explained the purpose "about them time to sell one's cloak and buy a sword."

No...you didn't...and you haven't the foggiest how else the verse applies.
I'm not arguing red with a blind man.

Repeat it for me in one sentence and forgive me for being thick.

Are you paying attention?

To fulfill prophecy, he needed any of his group to have weapons to be noted as “reckoned with t***sgressors,” as in Isaiah 53:12. But also the lamb of God would do “no violence” (Is. 53:9)
