When you wish to respond to a specific individual, right below the the post you will find three buttons: Reply, Quote Reply, and Report Issue. The first button will allow you to respond to the thread and to the general population, but will not show the comment that you are reading. The quote reply button will address the person and/or their comment with a quote of their comment included with your response. This is the most frequently used button on OPP and would be the button you have asked about. The last, report issue, is when you wish to draw the attention of Admin to a comment that violate OPP rules or is insensitive or contains material that is highly offensive (profanity, nude photos, or over promotion (use of personal email to business)). Now just click on the button that meets your needs... and you off and running.

Using Quote Reply will work only if you are the next person to post. If several others have replied before you, your post will go to the end of the queue. Similarly using reply will also place your post immediately after the topic you are commenting about, but with the same problem. In addition, if you aren't first to respond there is no link back to what you commented about and no one will get your message in context.

Very true and correct. But, at least when you use the quote reply button the comment you are referencing is enclosed in your reply. I do agree with you that the comment is forced to the bottom of the thread.
I do not know of anyway to keep the time line and thread together in another way. Do you?

No I do not. I contacted Admin on a related problem which was how to post very long articles. I was going through all sorts of gyrations to parse the article and then make successive posts, hopefully faster than any reply. Admin told me to select and paste what fit, copy the rest of the article, then post the first part and immediately hit reply and paste the second part and then post that. This works for material that can be broken up in two parts but some of mine have run to four parts. I don't do that anymore since very few read my posts and it isn't worth the work; now I publish a link and if the reader has any interest they can pursue the trail.

Once upon a time, I too would prepare responses that were long. I was accused of "writing books."
It would seem that people on OPP have no patience for involved responses or replies. For me, I enjoy your threads and comments and read all of them. I do not provide much feedback simply because your threads are self supporting and the replies that are simple thumbs up, in my opinion add nothing more than morale boosters but adds nothing to the discussion. So, keep up your posts.... they are interesting and informative.

Thanks for that, you and NPP seem to be the primary viewers of my posts. I try to select things that are thought provoking and spaced a little more into the future than this afternoon.

Yes, I enjoy your posts as well as Pennylynns. I have used the post an article in sections one after the other concept. If I am not sure that I can get them in order I email the entire article and my comments to myself which makes it easier to post them one right after the other with no interruptions.
