The fundamental stone in the foundation of a Republic is a Free Press. That's it. On that bedrock alone rests the failure or success of a Republic. America has gone though many uncomfortable and trying times in its history, all because of a Free Press. But we came out the other side stronger and better for it. It has made America Great, without question. America is great because of it and does not need to be made great again, as long as it stands. There is only one reason to attack the cornerstone of our Republic, what keeps America exceptional, and that is to end this Republic. Trump's consistent attacks at hammering away at this bedrock of freedom, although it may be just a game for his "alternate facts" to fill the gulf of his incompetency and bad decisions, may undermine the public trust enough to end this "great experiment." It has happened before. Every modern dictator knew that destroying confidence in a Free Press and eventually taking it over, like with Fox News and Infowars, was the way to secure their power. Control the narrative and you control the nation.

I may not be around to say I told you so. Who knows at 71. Yet if you do not resist this "f**e news" assault on our basic liberty, you will feel so foolish in insulting me now. That I was right would ruin every bunker you were forced to live in. A fate worst than death.

Rumi, you are smarter than this and know the lies that have been constantly made in an attempt to discredit Trump, and well before Trump... Trump may very well lie and sometimes I think it is used to get reaction as he has admitted. And whether Trump lies or not two wrongs don’t make a right...Lying is simply wrong and ruins credibility and character...I mean that it applies to everyone whether it is business or private.

As a child I got in more trouble if I tried to lie about something then the act I committed that brought me to that point. And today in this society lying is acepted as being perfectly OK, well it isn’t!

The indignation of the media is appalling. They do have an agenda and that agenda is to work towards removing President Trump from office along with giving us skewed reports, fabricated numbers, even information about the Middle East conflicts/wars...

You'd think that the way the press publishes false facts, they would welcome Trump, who appears to also lie. LOL!

Fact is, the press twists the t***h to promote their narrative. When Trump criticize them for that, they say he's attacking their first amendment rights, which is more stupidity. The press thinks they are above criticism but the criticism only pushes them to report t***hfully, it doesn't in any way impede their freedom to speak.

First Amendment rights I support, the lying media, not one bit and I believe formal complaints need to go to the FCC as often as possible, with another to your Representatives..!!

If we believe our laws, the public owns the airwaves then we need to embrace that responsibility !! Obviously they are so f**grant about false reporting because no one challenges them!!!

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issues these licenses and is in charge of regulating the airwaves and they need to hear the screams of the people fed up with tthier partisan news BS..!! They need to hit these owners with fine and threat of losing licenses if they don't provide fair reporting, underbthe fair doctrine rule that governs..

For me, promoting the belief that what the media generally reports is false or misleading is a direct path to dictatorship. Such a belief means there is widespread or blanket collusion by those that are not Fox News, The Federalist, or Infowars, to consistently lie and mislead the general public: we accept them without question? Again, for me, that is Conspiracy Theory 101: absurd! Yes, the Free Press gets it wrong occasionally and makes it look like what you say is true, but they print retractions and are most often accurate in their reporting. Abuse of power and agenda: at times yes by the Media, look at Nixon. Yet indicting the entire media as not making "objective and fair reporting" is way overstepping, for me.

Of course, we should fact-check, as best we can anything the media claim as true or fact; that, I feel, is a basic obligation of all citizens. Indicting the whole Free Press as ultimately corrupt and untrustworthy is wrong. Undermine the power of a Free Press--and we are done. American, and other Republic or Democracy, is finished. That is not hyperbole. A waiting fact.

These are dangerous thoughts inculcated by the Right. I am not trying to insult you by saying do you mean what inculcate means but just to stress a point: "instill by persistent instruction," or repeating "f**e news" 10s a day. If you favor Trump, then any news against him could be considered an attack...or true. Loyalty does not enter politics toward any person or office or party: it is to this nation and our Constitution. Your duty as a citizen is to distinguish between the two.

lindajoy, I do not want to fight with you; argue, yes, but not fight. I am forced to ask you a question: has Trump lied on numerous occasions? And about almost everything? If you answer no, this particular discussion is over. However, if you acknowledge the many authenticated lies caught on video and tweets made by the president, why do you attack the media instead of the president?

I sense that soon one side or the other will start k*****g their presumed opposition. I feel it has gotten that serious. Whichever side initiates such a conflict, both sides are accountable. The intractability, hype, ugliness, d******eness, and overall blindness by both parties are to blame. I do not see America surviving another 2 years under Trump. You do not see that or see differently. Well, we will see.

He is in the den of thiefs and liars from the hill to every mefia outlet going..I have said Im not in agreement with the man but love his results.. I do suppirt him because I see he has kept true to his campaign pledges and has ot slipped into the politicans role they so want of him..

May I remind you of the blantant lies circling during campaigning and then how CNNs Donna Brazile slipped hillary two questions to be asked during the debates..What about her rallies where no one showed up but the media said she had more people attending than Trump and double digit polls ahead of Trump etc ...Does none of what you watched on television and all the constant lying they did then matter??

I have really enjoyed your posts in this thread, but then we agree on this topic and I just can't accept much of what rumi is saying here. This post has too much t***h in it that those of the severe left lean will never see unless their ''press'' gets the better of us. Your mention of all the lies of the, as rumi says, free press should have given him something to think about. Surely, even those of the left lean did see many of those lies about their f**e polls and like that although I am sure they didn't and won't.

As to the lies of Trump, I have to wonder how many of them have been real lies or mostly the press after Trump. I really got a kick out of the media lies about the numbers of people at the two sides' rallies. Did Fox do one of their lies about the number of people at the Trump last evening. I didn't see any of his speech anywhere else but saw most of it on Fox. I am sure that the media would portray the numbers just as they would "his lies" there.

rumi and some of his "friends" just can't get away from all their talk about his lies while ignoring theirs.
