The law is simple, just follow the law. A person facing oppression and legitimate threat in their home country upon arrival at a US port of entry has the legal right to apply for political asylum. At this point they are entitled to a judicial hearing to determine if they face legitimate threat and if they do they are granted refuge until the threat no longer exists. The border officials can either release them on bond to stay with friends or relatives or can hold them until the hearing.

The law needs to be changed to require detention while they wait for their hearing. Further, there needs to be some modifications related to what evidence is permitted as proof of eligibility for political asylum. The law granting citizenship to anyone born in this country should be changed to require that the parent be here legally. All others are subjects of a foreign power
