Pardoning Scooter Libby, He Flat Didn't Need Or Warrant A Pardon, And Why Now?

Normally pardons come toward the end of a president's terms, especially controversial ones that are likely to have political consequences or backlash.

Libby didn't in reality need a pardon to change anything, he was convicted and his sentence was commuted, he never spent any time in jail.

Libby lied to the FBI, a felony. The fact of the matter is that Cheney should have done time for revealing the identity of an undercover CIA agent. It was done as a matter of retaliation for positions taken against the administration.

But why now, and why the sudden interest in a case that Trump had previously commented on that he had no interest in?

He's sending a crystal clear message that it's okay to lie to the FBI or intelligence committees. Cohen is actually under a direct threat of being prosecuted for lying about something that may be a direct tie to the "C" word...collusion. Cohen said he had never been to Prague, it would seem he was there, and the reason he was there would certainly be reason to lie about it. He met with a number of Russians including Russian hackers, this was before the e******n.

So is Trump sending a message to lie, to hang tough even though it's fairly apparent that the FBI has evidence that will prove it/ Is he sending a message that Trump will pardon him?

There is a little detail here, a serious catch-22. If Trump pardons him early there is no 5th amendment, he will be expected to tell all honestly, and new charges can be brought. The other thing is that Cohen is looking at charges brought by the state that get no pardon freebie. If he waits Cohen will face state prosecutions and perjury will be on the table. If he lies on the federal side he'll go down maintaining lies at state.

I think we're going to see how tough Cohen hangs.

I doubt anyone drinking from FOX thinks there is anything wrong with Trump sending a message that he will pardon those who lie to the FBI.

Anyone who talks to the fbi without a lawyer is stupid.Ask Martha Stewart.Just remember you are not under oath they are just asking you questions
and if you have ever been questioned by a lawyer you know they can turn you inside out .Of course you don't seem concerned that this could happen
I guess you really do h**e the constitution and all it stands for.Just like they have done away with habius corpus and can lock you and throw away the
key and no one will say anything your just screwed.

The main witness against Libby says she erred in her testimony and Libby’s conviction was more about an overzealous prosecutor than any actual wrongdoing. I guess I’ll take her opinion over a troll.
