Trumps Trade War!

The trade war that trump says doesn't exist clearly exists as China announced new tariffs on over $50 billion in good imported from the US. Of course the impact of all tariffs is to increase the cost of goods both sold and purchased--costs that will be t***sferred to the US citizen by either a loss of jobs or higher costs of goods over all.

So jump up and down my little faux capitalistic cons because the more you keep your mouth shut the more the more the autocrat you put in office destroys what you say you believe in with all your heart...

To all whom care: if tariffs and unfair trade practices = trade war then we have been in a trade war for years. At least with Trump we just might win.

Peter S, you are just spouting obsolete left-wing propaganda and you clearly don't understand President Trumps strategy. To negotiate with anyone they must have something to lose. That was the reason for the tariffs on steel and aluminum. Now that the Chinese have something at stake, as well as the $600 billion trade surplus they will come around. The wealth of China is built upon trade surpluses. Do you think that they will scarify that wealth by keeping the status-quo and refuse to trade fairly? Not on your life! The next part of the strategy is reciprocity; we tariff their goods exactly the same way that they tariff ours, category-by-category. The same with all of our trading partners, including Japan, the EU, India, and so-forth. That can only be done on a bi-lateral basis and hence the Presidents aversion to trading pacts like the t***s pacific partnership. In the past, we have been very poorly served by our politicians on this issue.

There was an interview on NPR yesterday of ginseng farmers in Wisconsin who supported the Pumpkinfuhrer and are about to take the pipe due to his moronic policy. The regretted their v**e and then some. As an aside a Democrat just trounced Scott Walkers right wing appointment to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Wisconsin is getting wise to failed right wing dogma, get ready for a blue wave!

I listened to the interview and the interviewee said that he v**ed for Trump because the alternative (Clinton) was worse. If you are going to quote at least be accurate.

One wonders if a trade war will increase costs and reduce American exports.

What do the Chinese have at stake? They have 50% of the market in steel an about that in aluminum. The US has only 4.7% so how does that threaten China's position--especially in steel which they have had no problem selling even with Trump tariffs. The only ones being hurt are the US consumers and no one else.

Without the Russians to bail him out Trumps last bankruptcy would have wiped him out. He's a man whose only success is at ripping other people off. He ripped US bankers off so many time that he can't find any who will lend him any money. That leaves the Russians as his only option and I can't think of a scenario where Trumps dependency on Russia is a positive for anyone involved except the Russians.

That's the only thing they can do.

Lets hope so. Trump is bailing out farmers as fast as he can but the fact that he has to bail them out is a testament to how his tariffs are a failure.

Trade wars will only lead to high prices and a dead economy.

Do you think foreign countries would retaliate if the US raised tariffs?
