Pruitt Rolling Back Emissions And Efficiency Standards, Who Does That And More Importantly Why?

I don't think anyone could come up with an actual reason why rolling back emissions standards and the miles per gallon standards and goals would benefit anyone, not even the auto industry. This saves that industry and consumers nothing, in fact it has an associated cost to consumers in more fuel burned.

There being absolutely no "reasons" for such a rollback, heading backwards from progress made, there is only one thing I can come up with that would influence this. It benefits the oil industry in several ways, the oil industry is the only possible beneficiary.

So how would the oil industry be able to or have an opportunity to influence this? Pruitt is thick as thieves with the oil industry. He has involved himself, as in traveled to meetings with oil industry people where in fact this is not even his job. As a state attorney general he had brought a multitude of lawsuits against the EPA on behalf of the oil and f****l f**l industry. This guy might as well, actually should be working as a lobbyist for the industry.

Oil companies will make billions of dollars if lower standards result in reductions in fuel efficiency.

I'm thinking the auto industry actually has no reason to reduce efficiency, consumers are fairly conscious of their gas mileage. That said, do you know how easily the fuel efficiency is changed? It's a computer chip reprogramming function. Simply changing oxygen/CO2 sensor parameters r****ds or advances timing and the burn rate is changed to richer or leaner. A reduced standard would also allow smog certification standards to allow dirtier engines to be on the road.

The jury was back on cleaner emissions being better for the air we breathe, does "the american people" really want those great times when we were allowed to breathe lead? That was part of the good old days. As an interesting illustration about how the right has always objected to every standard and regulation ever done, lead tells the tale. I can remember as a kid that this was a hotly contested issue. The viewpoint of the right and the oil industry was that this regulation on removing lead would destroy the oil industry, it could not survive such a heavy handed assault on the way gasoline was. And that typifies the attitude of the right to this day, every environmental regulation done for safety reasons is an assault on industry, an attempt to willfully destroy this country.

We are forgetting the shape east coast state's rivers and lakes were in after the age of industrialization when there were no regulations about what could be dumped in rivers and streams. And we are back to corporations that have no problem making more money and leaving a toxic mess behind that will be there for decades. The GOP seems to have the attitude that corporations don't need to be regulated because they will do the right thing if left on their own.

Wow what a sad state of affairs, it’s like things are getting worse with Trump not better.
