Lie #1: Gun violence is skyrocketing. Fact: Gun violence has been declining since the 1990s.
Lie #2: More guns = more murders. Fact: As the number of guns owned has increased, the gun homicide rate has plummeted.
Lie #3: Obama is helping the cause of gun control. Fact: Obama is helping gun sales.
Lie #4: Obama’s plan to “close the gun-show loophole” will deter crime. Fact: An infinitesimal number of guns used to commit crime were purchased at gun shows.
Lie #5: Expanded federal background checks will prevent mass shootings. Fact: A recent examination of 93 mass shooters found none were stopped by federal background checks. And according to AP, none of Obama’s new gun control measures would have prevented a single mass shooting, either.
