Congress Has Spent Millions On B******i Witch Hunts

The House of Representatives’ never-ending dishonest, partisan hearings on the attack that k**led four Americans in B******i, Libya in 2012 have long since been exposed as a waste of time. Now, thanks to the Pentagon, we know that they have also been a waste of money.

As The Associated Press reported on Tuesday evening, on March 11 the Pentagon sent a letter to Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), which revealed that Congress’ numerous investigations into the attack have cost millions of dollars and thousands of hours of personnel time.

“The Department has dev**ed thousands of man-hours to responding to numerous and often repetitive congressional requests regarding B******i,” the letter reads. “The total cost of compliance with B******i-related congressional requests sent to the Department and other agencies is estimated to be in the millions of dollars.”

The letter goes on to note that “these investigations validate the conclusion of the Accountability Review Board led by Ambassador Pickering and Admiral Mullen,” which revealed that interagency response to the attacks “was timely and appropriate.”

Rep. Smith responded to the letter by writing one of his own, to House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA).

“We must stop wasting this committee’s and our military’s scarce resources chasing a scandal that does not exist,” Smith wrote, according to The Hill.

“More than any other committee in Congress, this committee should understand the financial strain on the Department of Defense, which is being made worse by these ongoing and ridiculous investigations,” he added.

Although the numerous hearings have accomplished little (aside from blowing the CIA’s cover in Libya), McKeon appears to have no intention of heeding Smith’s advice. In a statement, his spokesman Cluade Chafin retorted that “it is important that the committee see this oversight effort through to its conclusion.”

Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee, which led many of the B******i inquiries under the leadership of Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), is still busy examining another f**e scandal. As Rep. Smith urges an end to the costly B******i witch hunt, Congressman Issa is going all-out in his effort to prove illegal IRS political targeting that never actually occurred.

For those of you keeping score at home, those investigations have already cost taxpayers at least $14 million.

There wasn't anything that any president could have done. It happened quickly and was not pre-planned, or there would have been some intelligence on it or evidence uncovered in the investigations afterward. Congressman Darrell Issa fabricated all sorts of bogus facts to make people think that Obama prohibited the military from taking any action, when the reality is that GEN Ham of AFRICOM stated that it was impossible to mount any military response. Obama-h**ers even went so far as to fabricate a scenario in which GEN Ham, at AFRICOM headquarters in Germany, wanted to send a rescue mission but was ordered to "Stand down" and was relieved of command by his 2-star deputy. Never happened. HAM happened to be in the Pentagon at the time and is the one who first alerted CJCS and SECDEF that the attack occurred. They even tried to sully HAM's name by suggesting that he was fired from his post, when the reality is that he retired from that job in an orderly fashion several months later.

People seem to think the military launches missions with no planning or intel. The reason our military is so successful at defeating enemies with minimal casualties is because every operation is planned in minute detail. There was no opportunity to plan a response and no appropriate assets to send in time. It was a terrible tragedy that was beyond our military's ability to stop.

I do hope that the State Department -- and the CIA -- learned a lesson about making sure that our ambassadors are always adequately protected. Host countries are normally responsible for protecting our diplomatic missions from attack, and I think that should continue, but an ambassador should not go to a covert, CIA station without adequate protection, whether by U.S. or host country assets.

Given the near-anarchy that existed - and still exists to a degree - in Libya, I don't think any president could have done any more than has already been done. I don't know the extent of the investigation that has been conducted, but I have read that the FBI has sent a team of investigators to B******i and that they have identified at least one person they believe was the instigator. Finding and capturing such a person in a place like that wouldn't be easy, and I seem to recall that the person they identified has fled the country. I don't doubt, though, that those responsible will be apprehended at some point.

Living here in the DC area, I can't help but recall the shooting at a red light outside CIA headquarters in the 90's in which a lone gunman went down the line of cars waiting to make a left turn into the CIA compound and opened fire at random with an automatic rifle on drivers and passengers in about 5 cars. (I happened to be working in a building just down the street at the time, so it made a big impression on me.) The k**ler escaped, leaving behind very little evidence. Even so, several years later they apprehended that lone gunman holed up in a tiny apartment in Pakistan in the middle of the night. That leads me to believe that this ain't over.

What would you have done?

Hey Wolf. welcome back. Did you read my reply?

The bad part is that Obama stood up and said he would bring these terrorists to justice then did everything in his power to cover everything up. If CNN can go interview the people who k**led these 4 men than why cant something be done to bring some justice to them for k*****g our people?

We should not have been there in the first fucking place.

The only reason we bombed the s**t out of Libya and murdered Gaddafi was to protect western big oil corportions and that backfired on us. Gaddafi in March of 2011 said he was not renewing oil contracts.

"Our oil contracts are going to Russian, Chinese and Indian firms,” Gaddafi told the German TV channel RTL. He condemned the Western powers, saying Germany was the only country with a chance of doing business with Libyan oil in the future. “We do not trust their firms – they took part in the conspiracy against us."

http://libyadiary.wordpress.com/2011/03/03/genocide-in-libya-nato-invasion-underway-its-the-oil-stupid/

The murder of Ambassador Stevens and others was about weapons shipments from Libya to Syria through Turkey. O and his r****t AG Holder had no problem running weapons to the muslim brotherhood just like they had no problem running guns to Mexican drug cartels. That is until they got caught. Yet they are doing everything they can to take guns away from law abiding Americans. We had better wake up!

RetnavyCWO, you need to quit listening to the propaganda of the elites' lapdog mainstream media.
