This is the reason why we need to see the financial statements of lawmakers. No one seems to be asking why a broke freshman congress person, becomes a millionaire within a few years. It is a running joke that soon-to-retire military officers need to be assigned to manage a defense contract, to boost their job prospects, as a grateful contractor will be glad to hire them after retirement.
