There are so many possible reasons it's difficult to pinpoint exactly the one. It could be all of them.

The world is full of crazy people. You ask the wrong questions. The proper question is who taught this particular crazy how to be such a good bomb maker. And it always comes back to guns. You can ban all of the AR-15s you want. The crazy will just find another tool. There was a case in Pennsylvania where a woman used a crossbow to murder her elderly mother.

This logic suggests that the availability of shoulder fired anti aircraft missiles for civilians would be fine because someone would just find another way to attack aircraft. Obviously AR-15s are much more efficient at k*****g large numbers of people than crossbows, if not the police swat teams and military would be armed with crossbows. By the way any i***t who got a c or better in high school chemistry can figure out how to make bombs. This does not diminish the fact that the feds restricting the availability of explosives to civilians has almost eliminated the dynamite attacks that were common in the 60s and early 70s when you could buy blasting supplies at the corner hardware.

FBI states Seven of the compounds have been identified as training facilities: Marion, Alabama; Commerce, Georgia; Macon, Georgia; Talihina, Oklahoma; York County, South Carolina; Dover, Tennessee and Red House, Virginia. Other compounds are located in California, Colorado, Texas, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Michigan and West Virginia.

I am familiar with the the 60s and 70s and I don't remember dynamite attacks being all that common.And by your own admission it didn't
