New York City has always been a hot bed for radicalism led by a guy named Marcantonio. NYU, where I went, though Ludwig von Mises, the founder of the Austrian school, was a professor of economics but he was at the Greenwich Village campus and I went to the Bronx campus.
I have always thought of NYU as a really socialist place. When we went into New York City in the middle 50s it certainly appeared that way to me. Many times we wore our uniforms since we could get into baseball games free with them on and found out we weren't well liked in the parts of the city you mentioned.
