Interesting read. We need a new amendment to rescind the 17th and 21st amendments.

Too bad the " Title on Nobility' Amendment wasn't passed.
Some who have studied it extensive, say it was!

The War of 1812 came alone and many records were destroyed...

Certainly would get rid of a bunch of ' Ambulance chasers ' in DC!

pafre... I find your wanting to rescind the 21st Amendment, the Repealing of the 18th Amendment which stopped the retail sale of alcohol, at a time when a good many States are legalizing marijuana is not facing the world as it is today...

You are in error, I did not advocate rescinding the 18th amendment, it was the 17th, which provided for direct e******n of Senators. The legalization of mind altering drugs will ultimately run into the same restraints that Alcohol has and it will occur a lot quicker. Just as public drunkenness and drunk driving in particular, can have such draconian consequences anyone under the influence of other intoxicants will also be prosecuted for crimes yet to be defined.

I also want to rescind the v****g rights of 18 year-old young men and women. They have no skin in the game. The fact that they can be drafted into the military is not a consideration, anyone, of good health and mentality, can be taught to use weapons and k**l the enemy. It does not require any extensive knowledge or prior experience and most of these 18 year-olds have had no practical experience in earning their own livings. There is a vast difference in the mentality of those who just had to ask to receive and those who had to produce to get.

I would be in favor of a competency test to determine fitness of any citizen to participate in the v**e. If you don't know the candidates and their positions on the issues, then why are you v****g? We have allowed ourselves to be propagandized by every source of information, simply because we are going to v**e anyway. If we had to qualify to v**e, we might demand greater visibility into what our government is doing and what information is being distorted before we hear it. Even a Republic requires activist citizens, not passive potatoes, who v**e based on the politician's pearly w****s or curly hair. Or worse, whichever demagogue promises the most "free stuff".

I was addressing your wanting to rescind the 21st Amendment when the 21st Amendment was the Repealing of the 18th Amendment, which was the Amendment stopping the retail sale of alcohol... It's the 26th Amendment which gives 18 year olds the right to v**e that you are looking to rescind...

Son of a gun, I made a mistake! Last time that happened was in 1957 when I thought I was wrong. Chalk it up to senior confusion and selective dyslexia. I not only reversed the order but I read a six as a one.

You are correct, it was the twenty-sixth amendment that I should have cited and my comments were pertinent to that amendment. The 17th provided for direct e******n of Senators instead of State control. Once in office, the incumbent has a massive advantage over any challengers.

With changing demographics, these Senators now have the ability to retain office until their views and v**es do not reflect the will of the people they represent. Much of the antics of some of the more notorious Senators might have been curbed or eliminated if they were still subject to their Sate Legislators.
