The Response I Recived From a Democrat In Hawaii

SInce I live in Hawaii the only completely demcoratic state in the union since it became a state there is a push for not allowing CCW recipriocity as President Trump has been going for. I responded to a questionare and here is the responce I received.
Mike
Aloha Michael:

Thank you for letting me know of your opposition to resolutions asking our Congressional delegation to oppose "concealed carry reciprocity" legislation. I introduced HCR 37 because it supports Hawaii's current "concealed carry" laws, which I believe protect public safety:
https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2018/bills/HCR37_.htm

"Concealed carry reciprocity" would allow federal law to override our state law that keeps concealed guns from dangerous hands. For example, Hawaii requires safety training for concealed carry permit applicants. We disqualify people with dangerous histories, people with violent misdemeanor records, convicted stalkers, and abusive domestic partners.

I believe we should preserve state authority to set public safety standards for our community. I do not want to place our local law enforcement at risk when encountering an armed out-of-state visitor who may be carrying a firearm without a lawful permit.

Although we may disagree on this issue, I hope you will not hesitate to keep in touch with me in the future.

Mahalo,
Gregg

Subject: Please Oppose HCR 37 & HR 29

Dear Representative Gregg Takayama:

As a law abiding Second Amendment supporter in Hawaii, I urge you to please oppose HCR 37 and HR 29.

The fundamental Right to Keep and Bear Arms should not end at the state line. National Concealed Carry Reciprocity would ensure that law-abiding citizens do not forfeit their ability to protect themselves as they travel from state to state, and it would also ensure that they could not be harassed or persecuted for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights in their travels.

Again, please oppose HCR 37 and HR 29. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Michael Johnston

Ummmmm.....here in Texas, concealed carry requires safety training, and background checks by state, and local law enforcement. You don't just go to Walmart Mart, and buy one. What a stupid response!

Hawaii has the lowest rate of deaths from gunshot wounds of any state in the nation, they are obviously doing something right. The Feds should learn from them not shove failed policy down their throats.

Chicago outdid them, and how is that working out?

Agreed. I also live in Hawaii, have legally obtained firearms permits and support State Law that sensibly requires background checks before purchase. I believe the majority of Hawaiians do not wish to see their peaceful culture saturated with mainland gun toting and paranoia.

Same here in Virginia. A CC safety course, live fire demonstration, State and Federal background checks, fingerprinting and having to renew every five years. Of course we pay a $50.00 fee to cover costs of the course and another $50.00 fee to cover the background checks and filing.

The simple solution is to make these requirements apply to all of the States. Problem solved. Mike

We don't own a gun, never have, but we'd like to hold on to our Constitutional Rights and not have them taken away by the radical left. That goes for all of our Constitutional rights. It appears that we have already lost our freedom of speech and many other rights. At the same time i******s have rights that they should not have. Something fishy going on here.

You are dead on right Carol. Guns aren't for everyone. In my case I was raised with them and have been fascinated with anything that hurls a projectile. Slingshots, bows, guns, heck blowing spitballs through a stray. Anything that could be hurled at a target including rocks have fascinated me since an early age. I own many weapons and since I no longer really hunt usually punch a bunch of holes in paper and ping steel. Mike

I'm laughing so hard right now!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm the same way myself! I even have a blowgun. The darts are about worn out, but I'm sure I can get more if I look hard enough.
Do you have a tater gun? Boy, I do! Started with the hair spray kind, and worked my way up to pneumatic. That sucker will launch a golf ball literally out of sight! A duck egg with just 75 lbs. of pressure, 140 yards!

I assume you are not actually talking about Hawaii? Total population of Hawaii is around 1.5 million. I have friends in Law Enforcement and while there is some minor local gang activity in metro Honolulu those gangs you speak of have no presence here.

Son in law and his cousins made several potato guns until they almost blew themselves up. Got religion real quick. My brother and I used to make m-80's out of various chemical and mineral components using cash register coils. We caught fish that way and thought we were the bees knees at BBQs until one of the Bondo plugs put a hole in my wife's leg from 50' away.

I'm still fascinated with fire works, guns, etc. I travel to Pa. each year to buy fire works for July 4th and New Years. It's against the law where I live but on those two day is not enforced so much as long as you're not crazy. Mostly I take the stuff up to hunt camp where nobody gives a hoot and most are like minded. Heck it's better than shooting guns in the air as that stuff has to come down some where and can be as deadly as aiming directly at someone.

Arch, it wouldn't be a good thing for you and me to get together, I can see a lot of trouble between us but what fun we could have. Mike

Yeah, Mike, I'll bet we would probably get ourselves in trouble for sure! I've been limited in my experimentation ever since one of my homemade rockets went through the kitchen window, and blew up in the house. I think I had it too top heavy, but wasn't allowed to try to modify it. The safety dept (my wife) shut down the research and development dept (me) on exploding rockets.
Now, all research and development projects must go through safety for approval. If R&D tries to bypass safety, safety will go to corporate (the kids) and all R&D will be immediately halted, and the shop closed.
