This passage has been the subject of several recent studies that help throw light on its meaning. Note first of all, that the passage occurs at the very end of Jesus' discourse at the Last Supper; right after this he and his disciples depart for the Mount of Olives where Jesus will be arrested and the terrible events of the Passion will unfold. The passage itself begins by recalling the mission journey of the disciples (see Lk 10:4 where the seventy disciples are told, "'Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals . . . "). That "journey" with Jesus (a favored idea in Luke's Gospel) continues but is about to take a decisive and critical turn as Jesus enters into the mystery of the Passion. So now the disciples must be prepared for struggle on this journey--they need resources. Whoever has a purse should bring it, and a knapsack as well. If someone is without a sword, he should sell his mantle and buy one.
The reference to Isaiah 53:12--Jesus will be "reckoned with t***sgressors" -- fits the same mood of impending crisis, but its precise meaning is difficult to decipher. Some interpreters identify the "t***sgressors" as Satan, Barabbas and the thieves, all of whom Jesus will encounter in the course of the Passion (see Lk 22:3–6, 31–32, 35–38; 23:18–25, 39–43). Others, however, identify the "t***sgressors" with the sword-bearing disciples. This seems confirmed in the arrest scene (22:52) where Jesus accuses his captors: "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?"
One thing is clear, however: when Jesus tells the disciples to "buy a sword," he is not speaking literally but is evoking the mood of crisis and readiness the disciples must bring to this moment (see in the next scene [22:40] where Jesus tells the disciples: "Pray that you may not enter into the test"). Jesus unambiguously rejects the use of a real sword by the disciples in 22:49–50 when one of them cuts off the ear of the high priest's s***e. Jesus responds, "No more of this!" and heals the man's severed ear. The rejection of violence was already clearly stated in the sermon on the plain (6:22–23, 27–31). Therefore, the disciples' response--"Look, Lord, here are two swords" (22:38)--is a sign of their failure to understand the real meaning of Jesus' words. Jesus' reply--"Enough!" (hikanon estin) should be taken as an impatient termination of the conversation (in the Septuagint the same phrase describes Yahweh's ending of his conversation with Moses in Dt 3:26).

Even now, many of the news reports are becoming somewhat sympathetic to the young orphaned, mass-murderer in Florida as they decry his ability to legally buy a firearm as the only true culprit.

Add the murders, accidental, medical wrong doing, all the war dead from the last 100 years it equals a drop in the bucket of the people murdered by their own government in the same time frame. Sarah Brady,last I heard takes $900,000 a year off the top of her none profit organization and $5,000 to show up with her machine gun toting body guards to sling her lies. The only people I know that fear guns are those that have never shot one. I'll bet if you went out one afternoon with someone that knows firearms and did a little shooting you would be hooked. It's a lot of fun trying to put a small piece of lead through the center of a target from 5 feet out to over a mile and when you hit that center it has nothing to do with luck because that's where you wanted to put it. Anyone who has shot a bump stock knows the law to ban them is pure advanced stupid. Let's take the guns away from everyone until they are 21.
