grace, this site will tell you where this country iz going...and it's not good. as i said before, 'do not tell me how and what to think because you just might die.' not you personally grace...but that is fast becoming the sentiment of this country. tell me...who's fault is this???

There are a very many facts in regards to the Human Psyc, Not just the ones you have chosen to plead your cause. "You are biased" to your own Judgments. This is Human Nature. These biased facts that you have pointed out are good, put only pieces as I said.
When trying to change someone elses way of thinking, you have to use it on yourself first- to see if it works, then allow many modifications for the varying general public.

There are, indeed, “many facts in regards to human psyc,” I had not intended to list all of them, even if I knew all of them. I intended to only list some that I think are basic, without which we have no useful communication. I said we are all biased. Beings biased works in to our benefit sometimes and against our best interests at other times. The point is, we can and must become aware of our biases and manage them in our best interests.

I frequenly consider the points I made and consider what effect they have on me. It has caused me to change some things that make my life work better.

As I have said, I don’t want to change anyone’s thinking; I merely want them to have the freedom to change their thinking that is doing them and society harm if they want to.

This site has a never ending flow of hostility and lack of useful communication. I assume most of us began participating on this site in order to exchange opinions and information and, hopefully, learn something. We may be able to save this exchange if we really want to. I think we are destroying the site partially because we are not aware of five basic things. These six things are not opinions, I think they are about as near to being facts as humans can get.

We are all biased. I don’t mean you are all biased, I mean we humans are all biased. All media is biased, some intentionally and some unintentionally, but none are free of it.

We are not aware of most of our biases.

We defend our unconscious biases with protective arguments called rationalizations in attempt to protect them. Often times, our “reasons” that protect our biases are obvious to others, but not to ourselves. Usually, we become angry when our biases are exposed.

We protect out biases by avoiding information that reveals them, people who offer counter arguments, and other sources of non confirming information and opinions. This is called the confirmation bias. Look it up on Wikipedia.

We can gain access to our unconscious biases in several ways, but first we must become aware we have biases and begin to know what they are about.

We often think we see our biases in others as a way of avoiding recognizing them in ourselves.

What are your thoughts (and emotions) about these statements?
This site has a never ending flow of hostility and... (show quote)

I'm sorry if we don't do things according to your personal satisfaction, but then that's life isn't it. Sure there is hostility on this site. What site doesn't? It is here because some people simply cannot let a statement go by without making a rude remark or two. Progressives as a whole will not answer a question, just distract and call people names.

Sure we are biased, who isn't and why would you not want a bias? It simply means that you have a belief in something and are willing to stick by it. That does not mean that you cannot change your mind if proven wrong, or are incapable of learning. It simply means that calling people names is not the way to do it. I very simply do not have an unconscious bias. I know perfectly well exactly what it is and am very open about it. I have never tried to hide it and will discuss it with anyone that wants to DISCUSS all or part of it. However I will not say much of anything to people that call me names. I may in fact call them a couple of names, but I am normally half way nice about it. By that I mean I don't normally get vulgar with them.

Avoiding information?? I crave information, I don't avoid it. You are making assumptions that you simply don't have the expertise to make. Don't mean to get nasty, but you are making assumptions that you have no way of backing up. You are telling me how i think when in fact you have no idea how I think. I am very open to new information and if it changes the way I think and the information as I know it, then I will willingly change my mind. I am not the least adverse to getting new information. I just don't take kindly to someone calling me names just because of something I posted, yet will not offer any new ideas that they can back up. I do not take someone's opinion as fact, unless they can explain it REALLY well. Progressives do not fall into this category, since they will not offer an idea, just remarks and normally crude ones at best, if not down right rude. Calling me names is not the way to change my mind. It will however generate a response of some kind.

What are my thoughts? Quit trying to tell someone that you know how they think, because you don't. You almost sound like a progressive doing that. You telling me I can't change my mind also is dead wrong, it just requires some form of proof, not just your opinion. You sound like some people I know with their holeyer then thou attitude and it doesn't bode well for your past. What you are telling me in your post is that I am to narrow minded to listen and to stupid to know any better, but you know all about how my mind works. Sorry, but you missed the boat..................

Read the points I made. I would say, read the points I made, again, but, from your comments, I don't think you have read them. You are very defensive, wild rationalizations, repetitions, misstatements, and a bit insulting. Are you able to see how this kind of defensiveness and lack of insight blocks communication? Your response was very predictable and understandable.

I don't think it is a matter of how your mind works, it is more a question of, does it work at all and the answer is, not so much.

As you have guessed, those who know better have attacked. Those who don't care, have looked and then moved on. Most people come here because they're bored and have no lives. We don't need anything from them, but they'll keep putting it out there anyway.

That's why I see a lot of my posts ignored, on any given thread, because I've interrupted an argument with common sense. When I see that, I move on because there's no reasoning with the kids when they're arguing.

Your points are not beyond the ridiculous; they define it. Facts are not...hold it, I can't stop chuckling...what "each individual perceives to be valid." That idea is so in Lala Land as to urge me to contact the local PD in your area. Or find some emergency counselors.

Either this is trollish nonsense simply meant to provoke or a serious mental condition. I favor the latter, as such I urge WC to please either take his meds or seek immediate counseling.

Rumitoid Two, keep clubbing those unconscious biases, you wouldn't want any of them to wake up. They fight viciously, when aroused.

When you get done skinning that bias, could you change it into a hat, or maybe an earmuff?

You refer to me as incubus. The definition of incubus is, one who causes mental distress: somebody who causes somebody much worry or anxiety, especially a nightmare or obsession. Am I causing you a nightmare or obsession by telling you about your biases? If I am and you want to keep your biases, I suggest you stop viewing and commenting on this thread.

Bias: a tendency to believe that some people, ideas, etc., are better than others that usually results in treating some people unfairly
: a strong interest in something or ability to do something

Belief: a feeling of being sure that someone or something exists or that something is true
: a feeling that something is good, right, or valuable
: a feeling of trust in the worth or ability of someone

Many of us just have strong beliefs and are passionate about them. Such as--the "left" are passionate about changing America to a socialistic nation. And the "right" loves our country and are passionate about keeping it and the freedom it has always afforded. We BELIEVE in our country, and want to keep it the way it was founded....upon the Constitution. It's not a bias. It's our belief. It's our t***h. Standing strong for our country should be your t***h as well. Not a bias. A very strong belief.

[quote=cesspool jones]you liberals have no patriotism for what this country has gone through in 200 plus years and you all think our history iz a joke.

I guess that's why I left 1/3 of my stomach and bowel in Vietnam.

Good Lord are you pathetic.

You comments demonstrates one of the ways we defend our unconscious biases. Thanks for the example.

Your comments express your very strong biases and some very questionable assumptions to support and defend them. Are you saying you have no biases? You are certainly expressing some of them whether or not you are aware of it? Open your mind just a bit if you are able to.

Ignoring is probably the most used way of not knowing. The second is anger and attack. Both are predictable and many examples are being expressed on this thread.

What a shock! I would have never thought you would post a sensible and agreeable idea in my lifetime! Yes the reason I joined this site was to exchange opinions and information but it seems that I spend most of my time defending myself from people who push my buttons to do so. I am impressed with your change of heart and hope you stop your trying to make people mad and continue with informative items like this posting. ;)
