At one point in my life i used this online dating service and i started talking to somebody, I saw his pic and he looked like my idol Gerard Butler!!! Yunnnn!!! lol Well anyway we talked on line for couple of months, exchanged phone numbers..It was great!!I thought i met the man of my dreams!!!Then in a pooof!! it was over..One day he wrote to me asking what kind of flowers i like and i told him that i like roses.....He asked me where should i sent it and i gave him my work address, because my parents were dead set against it!1 So one day when i was workin i received these beautiful flowers with a very nice note...Then later that day he called me and in brocken English he said that he had to go to Nigeria for business and he needed it for me to pay the money for the flowers and if i didnt pay it he knew where i worked!!!.......To say that i was heart broken is an understatement!!!....Of course i never talked to him again although i sent him an email stating that if he even thought to show up at my work he would be arrested faster then he can say MONEY.....My point to this story is if anyone you'll meet on line asking you for money..>>>>>>>>>RUN!!!!...BTW it is a true story!!!

I am sorry this happened to you. Sadly, it is not easy to determine if someone can be trusted based on telephone calls and emails.
But, you are now wiser now and other than your feeling, unharmed. I am glad you did not give him your home address.

I am happy you weren't involved in that relationship any more than you were. It undoubtedly saved you from a financial disaster and some heartache in the future. Today is her birthday.

I had the exact opposite experience after meeting a very lovely lady on the Internet. After many months of visiting through the Internet, she wanted to send me money to go visit her. After declining several times, she asked about her coming to meet me. I agreed. We had a very nice visit. She didn't want to move here for longer than 6 months at a time while I didn't want to move to Mexico for 6 months at a time. We are still very good friends. Today is her birthday.

If you became aware at the get go one thing to remember it's best to go with that gut feeling when things don't seem right.

I situations like this when two people are just meeting and money is asked from he or she red f**gs start popping up and one best be on the alert.

Good for you for not falling for his ploy and there are many that take the bait and are sorry for it after awhile.

I had an experience with online dating yrs ago I met a widow who had a decent paying job and was studying to get a degree with special ed kids or something of the sorts.

Well her job was done away with and here she was without any income so I helped her keep her house payments up and some repairs on her car till she was able to get on her SS survivor checks .
She said my finical help was to be a loan but I said don't worry about it as it wasn't going to make or break me !

We never finished our dating but still to this day we still email a couple of times a year.

I knew she was a hard worker and had a hard time making it so I felt it was worth it as I've helped other folks that were in a tough spot .

Having said all that it's best to go into these type of relationships with one's eyes wide open .

I am glad you got rid of this low life before losing any money !

Proud Republican,

I get these way out letters from some i***t in another country saying that I had five million dollars waiting for me in a lockbox. They usually want a small amount of money so they can release it to you. They also want a ton of personal information as well. Most of the time I delete the crap. Sometimes I get bored and I will play along to see how they play their game. I shoot them a ton of f**e information. They check it out and when they know it is f**e, they disappear for a few months, but they always come back. They must think I am law enforcement. The point is that it is so obvious that it is a s**m even a five year old can see it coming. They operate out of countries where there are no laws against this kind of garbage. If it is too good to be true, leave it alone and use your time for more productive things. Paul Harvey’s that’s the way it is.

My wife knows someone who fell for one of those s**ms. The guy was a real good con. Against everything that everything that all her friends and family told her she continued to send money, even took out loans and when the bank wouldn't give her any more money the guy quit calling her and now she realized that it was all a s**m! Now she is worried how she can pay for all the loans.

Be careful my fellow Americans. In the early 2001, my office received anonymous email from South Africa. I wonder how they got my email address since my office has the security of the State Government.
Here's what the email said.
That he was a banker. That someone with two million dollars deposited in the bank suddenly died of accident. He had no beneficiary or family to claim his estate.
Then this guy asked me to send my bank account number so that he could share the fortune of the deceased and deposit to my bank account.

What I did was to forward the email to the Federal Agency to trace the source.

Never answer any message like that. They will clean your own bank account.
Message to all, please don't be victims.

Had one nearly identical ,only difference was it read someone was on their deathbed with no family.
Otherwise the same things were asked.
Correct NEVER give out Any sensitive information.
As to how they get addresses
There are tons of s**mmers out there that know every trick in the book.I do not even know if the encryption software I use along with the AV and MBAM can prevent it.
