The most beautiful song ever put to vinyl, 'I Will Always Love You' is one of the most memorable songs ever written. Dolly and Whitney both sang it, but who nailed it better? Here's a comparison:

Dolly Parton wrote and performed it, here's her effort:

Whitney picked it up some time later, here's what she did with it:

Now you tell me, is this not 'Whitney's song'?

"If I should stay, I would only be in your way".

Whitney has an incredible voice. While recognizing that, I still like Dolly's better. IMO, hers sounds more down-to-earth, heart-felt and real.

You could make the same comparison between George Benson's 'The Greatest Love of All,' and Houston's remake of it several years later.

I really think Whitney has the better voice for a song like that. Dolly does country, that's her 'thing'.

Some like chocolate and some like vanilla, no pun intended... it's all a personal preference.

Both renditions are truly great but I still like Dolly Partons rendition better.

Whitney Huston's rendition while good lacks the sincerity that Dolly has in her rendition.

Also but and this is me Whitney's rendition just sounds to black to me.

The b****s have a way of vocalization that in my humble opinion totally messes up a lot of songs.

Whitney's rendition wasn't all that bad but it had enough of the black characteristics that it didn't feel right.

I agree, I can understand changing a delivery because you perform the same song over and over. Whitney was a major talent who allowed those she loved to use and abuse her to death.

I much prefer Whitney's voice over Dolly's but I think Dolly does this one better. She wrote it to be sung like country people do and Whitney just couldn't carry that sound off.

Dolly thanked Whitney for singing her song, and said she thanks Whitney for making Dolly very rich from singing Dolly's song. Even Dolly acknowledged that Whitney made the song famous and super popular.
Dolly sang country version and beautiful.
Whitney had awesome and powerful voice.
Horrible that Whitney wound up with that loser Bobby Brown.
