We have always had three to five dogs at a time and there has never been one that, when past puppy hood chewed shoes, pillows, furniture, or anything else that was not theirs. It is a matter of training them and giving them dog toys, nylabones and kongs to chew on. The required commends that must be obeyed are NO, COME, STAY, LEAVE IT, QUIET, Go To Your Crate, or place or bed. They learn a lot of other things too, but the basics are trained into their behavior from the day we get them and throughout their lives. All three dogs we have now are certified therapy dogs so obeying commands is mandatory. I was talking puppies. I have three dogs at present, youngest a Newfie, ten months, hes almost perfect, still a bit willful and over indulged by my children, what a sweetie. He taught me a trick, he steals a sock, offers it to me in exchange for a treat. Pretty smart. These are my buddies.
