How many Federal employees do you know personally? I lived in the DC metro area for 45 years. Many of my friends were government workers, and most of them worked their butts off. It's ridiculous to say that the majority of a workforce numbering 2 million--most of whom you know nothing about--are lazy or incompetent or both.

That’s a true statement you make... I do not know anyone who works in DC..

But I have a client that does a lot of government business and I have had occasion to speaek with any number of people within a couple departments that have to ask you three times what your name is and what company is this?? That’s a sure sign they aren’t paying attention... I could go on and explain incomplete bidding contracts or failure to submit signature pages or for them to return signed contracts etc.. Or how they have their own “ buddy system” on contractor they want you “ to consider” and how their blue prints to a job are often modified even after jobs have started etc.. and return a call??? Ha that’s the biggest joke..

And where did I say they are lazy or incompetent or both??? Please don’t add comments to my posts that were not said to begin with..

Very disingenuous of you to do so..

You said they were used to having nothing to do. That = lazy. You said they don't know what they're supposed to be doing or how to do it. That = incompetence. And apparently, you're speaking mostly about the govt employees who work with contractors. I've no doubt there is a lot of sleazy business that goes on around contracts, on the part of govt employees and contracters, both. However, most civil servants have nothing to do with the exchange of money between govt and private, for-profit corporations. I remain convinced that that the majority of these men and women are honest, hard-working people who deserve our praise more than our censure.

Wow, that is not what I took from LindaJoy's post at all. The sad thing about you liberals is you have these preconceived ideas about conservatives that have been instilled through propaganda and malice. You never first posit that someone is mistaken or wrong, they're r****ts, or bigots. You will backtrack somewhat when called on it, but it is YOU that seems to have an ingrained bias against conservatives.

Now to my take on LindaJoy's comment, (correct me if I get it wrong LindaJoy) if their job is to notify to the public of an eminent attack thank God they haven't had much to do or experience in doing their jobs. Maybe more training is called for. And people who don't have a lot to keep themselves busy or motivated in ANY job, government or private frequently tend get a little lazy and incompetent

Do I have evidence? Yes, math. I know math is hard but try to follow here. For over 30 years the government has been prioritizing identity over job qualifications in hiring. The average government worker retires after about 20 years due to, let's say 'generous' (because that sounds better than 'brazenly corrupt'), retirement benefits. That means that by now over 99% of government workers are performing (literally) jobs for which their major qualification is their identity, or minority status. So, while nothing is impossible and I could be wrong, the odds are overwhelmingly in my favor. It's unfortunate that this basic common sense needs to be explained to you. Unthinkingly parroting your l*****t professors' lunatic ravings doesn't substitute for intelligence, despite what they taught you.

So, obviously, it was the word 'minority' that triggered you. Are you too uninformed to know that race is just one of many diverse qualifications for minority status? Or are you so obsessed with race that you view everything through a racial lens, because you foolishly believe that makes you a 'not-a-r****t', somehow?
Do I have evidence? Yes, math. I know math is hard... (show quote)

I recently asked my wife how she liked being a member of the world's only 54% minority.

Just curious, VR, who actually is on the point of the warning spear in Hawaii? IOW, who is responsible for sounding the first alarm? What I heard was a state emergency management employee apparently pushed the wrong button.

I'm not privy to the internal command structure of the Hawaiian government, but I'd guess the ultimate responsibility rests with the head of the Hawaiian Civil Defense Dept.

For the actual act of 'pressing the button', that would be the employee (drone) who pressed the wrong button. From what I've read, it's a two-step process by one person. First one button is pushed, then a second one is pushed to confirm the first. They are now talking about changing it to a two-person procedure, where a second person pushes the confirm button.

Given the completely justified, highly public, uproar over this fiasco, things may not happen in typical government fashion in this case, but usually the result would be as follows:

The 'worker' who's job it was to push the buttons (correctly), but couldn't quite get it right, would be given a raise and promoted to supervisor, and would be in charge of two new-hires. This being Hawaii, where the cost of living is outrageous, each of these new hires, who's only job would be to each push one button correctly one time, minutes before incineration, would each be collecting a six-figure salary at the taxpayers' expense.

I can just imagine the fear they felt and yet the video of the college showing how they ran out to their cars etc, they weren’t screaming or hysterical..

Those people have a true sense of peace about them.. So nice, so polite and family means everything to them..

I’m glad it was just a mistake but very poor in it happening on the heals of the punk in No. Korea threatening to shoot a missle to them hitting within 20 minutes.. That was talked about with one of our guides and he wasn’t just dismissing it either...

When we visited Pearl Harbor I understood exactly why.....

Wow...you do get around, don't you? Good on ya! Hope you had a great time!

I've only been to Hawaii once, several years ago, for work. Spent about the same amount of time as you just did. It's an absolutely beautiful place.

Speaking of that NOKO punk, have you noticed how similar the rhetoric coming from him is to that of our own Democrats? Nice to know they're on the same page as a f*****t l*****t tyrant.

Nah, I think it was a plot by The Mooch, in an attempt to lower property values so she and Barry can get a bigger estate.

That's what all conservatives should be doing. Use the l*****ts' tactics against them.

It's just part of the Alinsky bible, shut down all opinions that don't conform to the l*****t agenda.

Again, I'm sorry. I question your data, however. According to the Federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM), minorities make up a little more than a third of the approximately 2 million federal workers, and their average span of employment (2013) is 27.8 years. Do you have a data source that tells you differently?

Given that I was talking about state or local government employees, I don't know why you would have looked up data on fed employees, but wh**ever floats your boat.

Again, my data is based on common sense. Where I live, which is pretty typical, state and local government employees can retire after 20 years with anywhere between 80-100% of pay, plus benefits, including raises. Even most Democrats are smart enough to take that deal.

Actually most of them are doing their jobs, it's just that their jobs aren't what you think they are. The one and only goal of any bureaucracy is to grow itself. How does a bureaucracy grow? By inflating its budget. How is the budget inflated? Next years' budget is determined by how much money was spent this year. So, the main job of any bureaucrat is to squander as much taxpayer money as possible, so they can get more next year. Most government bureaucrats are quite good at doing that.

Having said that, I recently read somewhere that the total cost of all federal workers is somewhere in the neighborhood (I don't remember the exact number) of $300 billion per year. My first thought was, "Wow, we spend about 3 times more on welfarers than on the entire federal workforce".

Yup, words have entirely different meanings in government-speak.

Your comment reminded me of this, from IMAO:

Yes, he did. Anyone miss them? Personally, I cannot think of a single one, out side the armed services and the Coast Guard, I would miss.

According to the info I have, a state emergency management employee mistakenly or accidentally pushed the wrong button. If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt it, it tells us a lot.

First, this reveals just how massive and many layered our government bureaucracy has become---from the top (federal) down (local). Since the Patriot Act and the establishment of DHS, the bureaucratic maze now in existence is extraordinarily inefficient. Government agencies and departments at every level are continually vying for political favors, maneuvering for position, and fighting each other for funding. The ongoing turf wars have made effective communication between agencies and departments nearly impossible, and cooperation among them is often non-existent. Such a ponderous, expensive and inefficient system is incapable of reacting effectively to any emergency or real time event. One need only look at the government agency responses to natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes.

20 minutes from launch to detonation is definitely too short a time for a layered bureaucracy to do anything to save lives. Here is the Hawaiian Emergency Management Agency's Emergency Preparedness outline.
