Thoughts On OPP's Ignore Lists

Every so often, my younger brother references two quotes I find amusing..."Everyone is entitled to my opinion," and "I'm easy to get along with...just let me have my way."

IMO, that seems to be the thought(s) of those who use the ignore list to block out posters with views opposing their own. I have no problem with that, as the list is an option/ prerogative offered by OPP. In fact, many or most posters would just as soon not deal with the comments of their detractors or antagonists directed to them in print. Understood. What is not understood by me is why those same posters who put others on their ignore list see fit to respond to that 'ignored' individual's threads or posts? I see that as rather contradictory, if not cowardly. It is why I have no one on my ignore list.

With a minimum amount of t***sparency, I am (as of this morning) currently on two individual's ignore lists. I have been on one for some time now and am assuaged somewhat by the fact that I am one of many that make that poster's list. The second, added very recently, has already found the time and made the effort to respond to posts by me. I ask: Why would anyone cut off communiques to another except for when they choose to make a point of their own, while banning any response?

Personally, I welcome comments to my posts/thoughts, whether they be complimentary or critical. I expect the aforementioned detractors and antagonist, and would be shocked if I had none. I joined this forum, among other reasons, to read others opinions/views without regard to how they differ from mine. Having an ignore list would go against my reasons for joining OPP, for as a rule, I welcome open discourse. Ignoring those who oppose or differ from mine is counter to the purpose in being here.

Besides, IMO, the worst form of censorship is self-censorship.

There are some folks on OPP who consistently post the same kind of things over and over...such as the Jew was behind 911 or there is no G*d and those who believe are complete fools. This is their opinions, but when I see such remarks I am very tempted to respond and have actually been unkind to those people. Ergo, I have two people on my ignore list... only because I do not trust myself to be civil to either one. Some discussions are just not worth the effort or the fall out from having my blood pressure go through the roof. I tried for about a year just to ignore the threads they create, but that is difficult if not impossible. It is not that my path or philosophies can not be questioned or discussed or that my beliefs are perfect.... it is because I am not perfect and can not trust myself to remain calm or dispassionate. One should be a self censor.... and if you think otherwise, then please do not criticize President Trump when he fails to censor his language.

Kiraseer and Rayloon both have me blocked but often comment on my threads.

I make them pay for their t***sgressions with merciless verbal spankings.

I'm on several ignore lists myself. When the ones who have me there pop up elsewhere, I try to be there for them.
