Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey warns that North Korea already has the ability to use a satellite to strike the United States – an attack he thinks could wipe out 90 percent of the U.S. population within a year.
In an exclusive interview with Newsmax, Woolsey says the United States is closer to war with North Korea than at any time he can remember and cautions that the intense focus on North Korea’s ICBM program may be a mistake.

The real threat, he says, may well come from satellites traveling on a southern trajectory that would barely be detectable until they are over the continental United States. North Korea already has at least two satellites in orbit that pass over the United States along that path.
From North Korea’s perspective, detonating a nuclear weapon aboard a satellite at 200-300 miles above the United States would be much easier, and much more damaging, than striking a specific target using a standard ICBM.

The mainstream media, and some officials who should know better, continue to allege North Korea does not yet have capability to deliver on its repeated threats to strike the U.S. with nuclear weapons. False reassurance is given to the American people that North Korea has not “demonstrated” that it can miniaturize a nuclear warhead small enough for missile delivery, or build a reentry vehicle for an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of penetrating the atmosphere to blast a U.S. city.
