A Conservative says: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." A Liberal says: "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is, and then blame the Conservatives."

He seems to forget that rights carry responsibilities. The right to v**e carries the responsibility to be informed about the issues and the candidates, not just one has a (D) or an (R) after the name. Originally, the only people allowed to v**e were property owners. People who own homes and businesses have skin in the game, something to lose, and a vested interest in who gets elected. I would add military veterans to that list also, property owners or not. I didn't buy my first house until about ten years after my discharge, but you cannot tell me that me and people like me had no dog in the fight. Now, about half the people who v**e simply v**e for whoever they think will give them the most handouts. Why do you think there is such a push to legalize wetbacks? They are far more likely than either b****s or w****s to receive government entitlements, and v****g or not, almost always support Democrats. (I am not including native born Hispanics in this category, their stats are not so outrageous.

I am white & for some reason I think a lot of those bad mouthing minorities at this time are white also.

I think that running down those that are in the minority now stems from the fact that that the day is coming when The w****s in this country becomes the minority.

It is not fun being in the minority.

Rather than me fight the issue I hope that they find a way not to blame me for what others have done to them.

I say there is room in my world for them now & I hope there is room for me in their world later.

Or are many of them going to look to Putin to save the day for the white race?

Do we decide to get along with every body & save what we have or fight it & loose what we have?

We are at the cross road now. Time is not going to be kind to us.

I am not bad mouthing minorities, I am bad mouthing wetback criminals who steal benefits intended for American citizens, regardless of race or politics.
These are not starry eyed immigrants in search of the American Dream, they are l***hes who begin s**mming the system for every handout they can get as soon as they set foot on American soil. The immigrants of earlier times, from Asia, Africa, and Europe, did not receive food stamps and welfare, because there wasn't any such thing. They came in, they worked hard, acted honorably, and became a credit to this country. I know Vietnamese and Africans who have become better Americans than many native born. Same for Eastern Europeans.

A huge portion of immigrants on the take are from the former Yugoslavia. I have seen many when I am in my social security office or with a friend at our local job service. It is also a sight for food stamps and welfare. I'm in no way saying that wetbacks are not on the take. However eastern Europeans have had a life of standing in long bread lines and habits die hard.

There is certainly much disagreement about the benefits and pitfalls of raising the minimum wage among well known economists who spend their lives studying economic changes and trends. Your own theories swing through the pros and cons without a firm conclusion. You are in good company. Your question about the dems using the wage issue to buy v**es is puzzling. Who are the sellers of these v**es? We really don't know who the winners or losers are in the wage war. I am in favor of raising the minimum wage. I believe that when an individual works hard for 40 hours each week, he should be able to get by without resorting to public assistance, welfare, food stamps, etc. We live in America, the land of opportunity. I would be happy to pay ten cents more for a burger and twenty cents less for welfare.

When you have conflicting experts, like economists, on subjects like minimum wage one either should concede that he is incapable of determining who is right and therefore hold no opinion. The other approach might be to apply common sense to commons sense things that you know. Let me try that on minimum wages - and let me know if any of the simple statements I made in applying common sense are wrong in your opinion.

If wages are increased, all else being equal, all those engaged in profit making business will do one of the following, or a combination of the following:
- if the job is "portable" move it to a location where the wage has not been increased and therefore became more competitive, and/or;
- look to somehow automate the work, and the more expensive the work, all else being equal, the more cost justifiable capital investment would be, and/or;
- increase the price of the product/service that the work produces, and as happens when a product or service becomes more expensive, all else being equal, the demand for it will decrease.

Each of those outcomes all lead to a decrease in the jobs.

Further, all else being equal the wages one earns in a market based economy is largely driven by the demand for the work and the supply of the workers seeking it. For those jobs at or near minimum wage, those with low sk**ls and education are the ones most likely to be working on them.

If we increase the supply of low sk**led people by importing them in large numbers, legally or not so much legal, we suppress the wage scale for them. Further, if we allow our schools to, for wh**ever reason, generate many more non-sk**led and uneducated people entering the workforce, we further suppress the wage scale. If one doubts that we're doing that in our educations system, one needs but look at our urban schools, both the graduation rates and the achievement rates of those that graduate.

So, by making it more expensive to employ people - and there are many programs in addition to minimum wage that does that - Obamacare but one of the more recent - thereby decreasing the number of low sk**led jobs - and by making sure the number of unsk**led workers far exceeds the number of positions they can aspire to we make certain that the number of people who are not afforded the opportunity for economic independence.

I think it is clear that those who are most responsible for both ends of that spectrum are those who most expect to gain v**es for themselves

jack;
At least Democrats will try to fix what needs fixing. Since republicans are too lazy, and do not have the mental capacity to fix anything, so they say "Shoot it" or k**l it.

Democrats will try to fix it whether it needs fixing or not. Their accepted and usual method of fixing is to throw large amounts of [someone else's] money at it, and if that doesn't work, then, by golly, it never was a problem. There is one exception, however, as comedian Ron White pointed out, "You can't fix stupid."

By the time Democrats get around to "fixing" something, it is usually beyond repair. Case in point: ObamaCare.

Why would they have to do that? republicans, are their own worst enemy, and all harm that they inflicted on themselves, is self induced, and they don't need one bit of help from anybody else. Hell, even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Such stupid things as refusing to give out of work workers their benefits so they can feed their families, then cutting food stamps for those workers, and the poor, and our veterans.
Trying to k**l something as important as health care for those that need it, instead of getting off their lazy asses to help fix what needs to be fixed.
Kissing, and licking the asses, of the very people that put us in this condition, by paying their taxes, and helping them to buy, and steal e******ns.
Because that is the only way they could ever win an e******n.
Do they care that they are putting this entire country at the mercy of those greedy, ungrateful people, that do not give a damn about this country. All they care about is where they can get another dollar, no matter who it hurts.
Are you, or any of your buddies stupid enough to think the Koch family gives a damn about you, or them? Hell no!
So what does it matter when the minimum wage issue was brought up, republicans are going to fight against it anyway.
Probably because none of their leaders need it.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what they are attempting to progress toward, other than serfdom. If I recall my history, we already tried that s**t in Medieval times, and traded it in on something else.

It would appear that serfdom is their ultimate goal.
