Cray Turmon, a homeless black man in Columbia, S.C. came to the rescue of a white policewoman.

Turmon said; “She’s a woman slammed to the ground and she’s an officer. … I saw her belongings hit the ground,”

“She’d done everything she could. … It was going to get ugly, ya know? Something had to be done.”

“I just dove,” he said, pinning the suspect to the ground.

“I needed someone to assist me to get him on the ground,” Hardesty said Wednesday, recalling the tense standoff.

“I didn’t see him coming,” she said of Turmon. “I thought, ‘Is that a cop? That’s awesome. Oh, it’s not a cop.’

The suspect, Donald Songster Brown, 39, has a 10-page criminal record that shows largely petty crimes

such as trespassing, credit card theft, shoplifting and resisting arrest. Many offenses involve alcohol or drugs,

until Tuesday, the most serious charge against Brown was an armed robbery case filed in June.

Now, Brown is facing attempted murder and kidnapping among other offenses.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook honored Turmon for his courageous act by awarding him with a certificate

to commemorate his “extraordinary actions to preserve life and aid public safety.”

He called Turmon a hero and handed him two $50 Walmart gift cards just in time for Christmas.

Hopefully, he will soon have a home, to hang his certificate up in.

He certianly deserves more than a couple of $50. gift certificates and a piece of paper to hang on a wall, that he doesn't have.

That's wonderful. And even more wonderful to hear because I have always believed that everyone has a core of goodness.

If we would spend more time helping the homeless in our country it would certainly make a difference. Would you feed someone else’s family before you feed your own? Unfortunately our government and celebrities do that everyday. Sad

Democrats (who aren't as insulted by being called c*******ts as you'd like us to be, even though the appelation is inaccurate) have a long history, especially in the US House and Senate, of introducing legislation targeting homelessness, and Republicans have a long history of defeating it.

Or, I should have said, of opposing it and, lately, defeating it.

Underlying Democratic policies have contributed to the number of homeless.

I'd be interested to know which policies you think are at fault. Obviously, neither Democrats nor Republicans have made much headway against homelessness.

Well, they do promulgate and encourage it with their programs/entitlements.
