Jonah chapter 4

Verse 1

Jonah has left Nineveh, found a spot on a mountain where he could watch Nineveh be destroyed. He gets angry when he sees it didn’t happen. God appeals to intellect, satan to emotion. That is why it is bad to make emotional decisions. God is in control. Try the best you can to be as good as you can. Sometimes when we try to do right, the results are unexpected. Don’t be a quitter. Continue to follow God.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God
Acts 14:22
God does not save from tribulation, He saves through tribulation.

Verse 2 & 3

Jonah is angry at God for not killing the people of Nineveh. If your understanding of scripture leads you to believe God is pleased with the murder of children, you need to keep reading. God has been forgiving sins and pardoning iniquity for thousands of years. Sinners in the hands of God will be forgiven.

Verse 4

Actions have consequences. We can choose our actions, but not the consequences of our actions.
Be angry and sin not
Ephesians 4:26
When we feel like doing something, we should consider the consequences.
Where there is no vision, the people perish
Proverbs 29:18

Verse 5 - 7

God can and does create life. You can put no limitation on the holy spirit. In this case, God made a plant that grew in a day, then a worm that ate the plant. The plant probably had a pleasant odor and got Jonah a little tipsy.

God is in control. God appeals to intellect, satan to emotion.
