Jonah chapter 3

Verse 1 & 2

God doesn’t change and neither does His message. The bible should be taught chapter by chapter and verse by verse. You will never understand any book when you read the sentences in random order. After everything Jonah had went through, I’m sure he wanted to obey God.

Verse 3 & 4

Nineveh is the capital of Assyria. Assyria was a country. It took 3 days for Jonah to walk to Nineveh. Nineveh was a large city and Jonah traveled for a day in the capital city. There was no love lost between Jonah and the Assyrians. I don’t think he gave them a message of love. He told of God’s intention to destroy them for their wickedness and probably of his intention to watch it happen.

Verse 5 - 9

The people believed God sent Jonah and repented, from the least to the greatest. The king of Nineveh laid aside his robe and covered himself with sackcloth and ashes. He proclaimed a fast of bread and water for man and beast. They would all be covered in sackcloth in hope that God would see their repentance and not destroy them.

Verse 10

God is moved by true repentance where evil behavior is stopped. This feel good but do nothing religion where drinking and smoking are considered sins, in spite of Mark 7:15, and abortion and same sex marriage are legal accomplishes nothing.
