Isaiah chapter 33

Verse 1

Whenever you see the word “woe” in the bible, that means whoever the woe applies to has bad luck coming. But if it don’t apply you can let it fly. If you repent and stop the bad behavior, the woe no longer applies to you. In this case the woe applies to those that hurt those that haven’t hurt them. When they get in the position where they can no longer hurt anyone, they will be taken advantage of. Assyria launched an unprovoked attack on the children of Jacob.

Verse 2

We are in the world but not of the world. Christian success should not come at the expense of anybody. When Hezekiah prayed, God moved.

Verse 3 & 4

Assyria prided itself on it’s cruelty. It launched unprovoked attacks on neighboring countries and stole and killed at will. But when God killed the Assyrian army, Assyria disappears from the pages of history.

Verse 5 & 6

The Lord gives wisdom. Proverbs 2:6 If this was a Godly nation, our leaders would be righteous and have good judgment. We have no reason to fear North Korea. They can’t even build a car. Donald Trump is a leader. But satan works through the press and the media.

Verse 7 - 9

When Assyria attacked, countries were devastated. No one traveled in or out.

Verse 10 - 12

As cruel as Assyria was, they along with their hopes, wishes, aspirations, and plans, disappeared like smoke when they likened God to idols.

Verse 13 - 15

Evil is a choice. Those that choose to do evil destroy their own lives and cut short their own futures. The question in verse 14 is answered in verse 15. Read the 15th Psalm.

Verse 16 - 18

Things will not get better until we get better. God gives wisdom. If we make better choices we will see the hand of God in all creation. We would dwell in peace and safety, away from present danger.

Verse 19 & 20

If you read 2 Kings 18:26, you see that the Assyrians spoke a different language. They would surround Jerusalem but never set a foot inside. Against God’s will they launched unprovoked attacks on neighboring countries. Assyria worshiped idols and had no knowledge of God. It doesn’t seem they learned when their army was destroyed.

Verse 21 - 23

When water meets land, life comes from the earth. When God’s word is sown in your life, your life improves.
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it.
Proverbs 10:22
Those that oppose God’s children only hurt themselves. When your life improves, you will be a blessing to others.

Verse 24

God has been forgiving sins and pardoning iniquities for thousands of years. Sinners in the hand of God will be forgiven, if you repent.
