I have nothing against gay unions, call it what you want, you guys love work smithing so well. However, marriage is what it traditionally has been for thousands of years, a union between a man and a woman.

I am all for gays shacking up together, first of all they are unable to procreate and secondly will probably give each other aids which will speed up the dying off of such anomalous and d*****t sexual behavior.

Marriage is a scared union between one man and one woman. It is a unique union. A union between two people of the same sex can be called what ever you want to call it. If you want it to have the same rights as marriage you must make laws that give its unique name the rights. People of the same sex should be proud of their unique name, and not try to usurp the name of marriage. When they try to usurp the name of marriage, it only proves that deep down they know they are wrong and they are trying to legitimize themselves. If they really think they are right they should be willing and proud to have their own unique name to signify their union.

{The big problem with the whole marriage debate is that we, as a society are confused about whether it’s a religious covenant or a civil/legal contract. That confusion stems from the strange arrangement that there is between government and religious institutions regarding how people are married. Couples must get a license from the state, then they have the choice of taking the vows in a civil ceremony or going to a cleric. Giving that authority to the cleric is a problem in a country where there is supposed to be separation of church and state. Now, I think that we can agree that for all people , it is a legal arrangement. Therefore all people should be married in a civil/legal setting. Then, if they want the blessing of their religion, they can have a separate religious ceremony. I believe that it’s done that way elsewhere. In any case, it should be called marriage…gay or not. People who do not want a religious ceremony should not be relegated to what many might perceive as a lesser status of “Civil Union” The word “Marriage” in and of itself is very important to gay people. It is universally understood to mean a certain thing. For instance, a gay person might be turned away from visiting their partner in a hospital because someone doesn’t understand , or does not want to believe that they have the same rights. It’s a status. Anything short of calling it marriage is a “separate but equal “ philosophy reminiscent of segregation. As President Obama said, (paraphrase) no group should be denied full equal rights in the absence of a compelling demonstration that to do so would harm others. I submit to you that the burden of proof for the denial of equal rights is on those who oppose it. I say to those who oppose marriage: Unless you can make a compelling, rational, and legal argument against it, you have lost this debate. Unless you can clearly and scientifically demonstrate how it would be harmful to families, children or society, you lose. You who oppose e******y are now an anachronism, your day is done and your war is lost. You may win a few battles but at the end of the day, you will be on the wrong side of history. You just don’t know it, or can’t accept it yet. Society is changing and you’re being left behind. I fully believe that those who are opposed to full e******y, including marriage, will one day in the not too distant future be looked upon with the same scorn and disdain as most people have for the segregationists of the early 20th century. }
