I am 83 and have been lamenting the death of liberalism in our politics. We had a good run from 1933 to about 1973 then the economic elites decided to wage war on unions and the great middle class they created that began with the National Labor relations act in 1935 a feature of the FDR New Deal. Interestingly while the elites pealed away the New Deal like an onion Liberals were winning the culture war. After 35 years of moving to the right politically I fully expected the financial collapse in 2008 would end that run but Conservatives managed to squirm out of it and blame liberals as usual. Now the conservative run has reached 44 years and has grown long in tooth. History shows us how cycles run and I think the conservative run will come to an end soon. It appears they have reached an apex and the younger generation's coming up are far less conservative than the older and offers hope that the pendulum is poised to begin swinging back toward left
