A turd in the punch bowl? Isn’t that a rather extreme way to get folks to lay off the sauce?

Nah, just another way to reserve the punch for the more hard-core among us...

What really gets me is when I leave my beer at the bar with a note saying 'don't drink this, I spat in it', thus making it yucky for the local beer monster to steal it in my absence, only to return and find a second note saying 'so did I'. Rats!

Glad to read her feet are better.. How about a wheelchair to keep her off her feet and help you out too?? I know I can hear her saying “ no wheel chair for me” but~~~~~

Likes her clutter where she can see it, does she..?? Put it up higher on shelves if needed, and what she doesn’t see won’t hurt a thing...

Stay tight and know we are all right here should you need us!! We have broad shoulders, arms to hug you when needed and ears to listen through those moments of frustration.. Cared for my mom 18 months not complaining one bit!! I cherished it then and now cherish what we shared together..You will do the very same, running yourself down with all you do too..Been there I know what your going through..

And Mike when all said and done you will have peace because you lived it with her!! What a beautiful man you truly are!!

I agree. Unfortunately, bedsores can become a problem if mom just sits without moving around, especially, if she starts using a wheelchair as primary seating. Seems circulation is already a problem. She needs to move her feet and legs constantly throughout the day. Talk to her home health aid or therapist. Trust me, you don't want to have to tend to bed sores on her posterior. There are anti-pressure cushions you can place in which ever seat she uses. Plus you said she is unsteady using her walker. She needs to be getting up and down to help keep up her core strength and mobility, unless doctors specifically ban that action. The more mobility and independence mom maintains, the easier life will be for both of you. Sounds like she is a scrappy lady that I'd enjoy meeting. Both my parents and in-laws have passed, miss all of them. Been in your shoes. Love her as much as you can while you can. Prayers for you and yours.

We're here for you when things get to being too much. So don't be afraid to reach out for support.

She's able to creep about with her walker a little. Her last angioplasty was a success insofar as it restored a little circulation to the foot that wasn't getting it, so she's better now than she was a month ago but there's nothing left to do about her underlying problem except amputation.

Lots of protein helps prevent bed sores. I make protein drinks for her and I'm a damn good cook (if I do say so myself!) so bedsores haven't been a problem lately.

I appreciate the encouragement.

Mike, I'm not a doctor, but the following helps me (it was suggested by a nurse):

COQ10 - Ubiquinol (pronounced “you-bik-win-all”) - is a vitamin-like substance found throughout the body, but especially in the heart, liver, kidney, and pancreas. It is eaten in small amounts in meats and seafood. Coenzyme Q-10 can also be made in a laboratory. It is used as medicine.
Many people use coenzyme Q-10 for treating heart and blood vessel conditions such as congestive heart failure (CHF), chest pain (angina), high blood pressure.
Dr. Stephen Sinatra (a board-certified cardiologist, and a prominent expert in the field of natural cardiology) dosing guidelines are: Arrhythmia, 200 mg/day.

Garlic 1000 mg - Garlic is used for many conditions related to the heart and blood system. These conditions include high blood pressure, low blood pressure, high cholesterol, inherited high cholesterol, c****ary heart disease, heart attack, reduced blood flow due to narrowed arteries, and "hardening of the arteries" (atherosclerosis).
Some people use garlic to prevent colon cancer, rectal cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, multiple myeloma, and lung cancer. It is also used to treat prostate cancer and bladder cancer.

L-Carnitine 1200 mg (2X daily) is a vitamin-like nutrient. It’s a derivative of the amino acid lysine which helps to turn fat into energy. It is considered by some to be the single most important nutrient in cardiac health. It reduces the incidence of cardiac arrhythmias and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). Dr. Sinatra says Coenzyme Q10 and Carnitine work together, and calls them the “twin pillars of heart health.” While CoQ10 ignites the spark that generates ATP, L-Carnitine is the energy shuttle that t***sports long-chain fatty acids to the heart cells (mitochondria) where they are burned as fuel. A newer form “propionyl-L-carnitine (PLC)” targets heart tissue specifically.

Hope you and your Mom the best.

I’ve been in it almost 10 years and I am completely satisfied with it.

She takes CoQ10 and we have an old Acme juicer. I make carrot and beet juice every few days. Good stuff for the circulatory system. Her problems began 20 years ago. Frankly, considering her genes, it's hard to believe she hasn't already lost her feet.

Have had to do most of those for my wife including installing an additional very sturdy handrail down the front steps. Mike

Maybe you could tape mom talking about the how, where, why "things" came to be in her collection.
Film and get her talking about things before she decides how to group like things with like for display or boxing them up so they won't get damaged when you clean.
Dust cannot be good for her breathing if she is diabetic. Many diabetics have oxygen level issues. Label boxes and Switch out contents for display.

Note: There should be a clear pathway for walker to seating, lighting, windows, doorways.
A study chair with arms and a seat that is high enough for her to get out of easily.
Grab rails and a toilet seat assist if necessary in the bathroom.
Grab rail beside the bed for getting in and out of bed and turning over.
Step stool to assist getting into bed.
Even thresholds between rooms can be a barrier when one is using a walker.
Note: I bet those feet are supposed to be elevated. I've found a bean bag chair makes a better foot rest than anything else I've tried and it doesn't "bark" your shins. The bean bag chairs come in different colors and styles so you should be able to find one that fits the home's style.

No rugs or cords to trip upon, no towers of things that might fall.
Trash of course should be disposed of properly, even if one must put it in a "recycle" collection that disappears on trash day.
Dirty clothing in hampers and none on floor.

Note: Experienced with living with limited mobility persons in home environment, including myself.

I'm going up to hunt camp on Thursday to install a handicap ramp up to the bathroom so my Wife and others who can't handle the steps can access the room. Also installing handrails in the toilet area. Hopefully this will encourage her and others to come up more often. Mike

When we installed hand rails on both sides of the front steps, we extended them for the landing area at both the top and bottom of the steps. Also have a landing zone on both sides of the front door for packages. Have space on both outside and inside of doors to allow for walker or wheelchair user to move aside when entering and exiting. One of my wheelchair bound friends suggested I might want to install an additional "peep hole" in the front door for someone in a wheelchair to look outside.
