Archdiocese of NY: More than 200 claims of priest abuse

Wonder if they used the Rosary during child abuse?

The Archdiocese of New York said Thursday that more than 200 claims of abuse by Catholic priests have been filed under the church's victim compensation program.

One day after the deadline for victims to file with the church, the Archdiocese said 172 claims were confirmed and financial compensation was accepted, while 21 victims have been offered compensation and 13 other claims are under review.

The Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program, or IRCP, was launched by Archbishop Timothy Dolan to offer settlements to victims of abuse by priests who are prohibited from filing legal claims.

Started last year, the compensation program began a second phase on March 1 to allow victims to file for compensation. That phase ended yesterday.

“The program was intended to bring a sense of justice and peace to those who did suffer abuse by priests or deacons of the Archdiocese of New York," said Joseph Zwilling, the spokesman for the archdiocese.

The program gave victims a means to be compensated for the abuse they suffered because the statute of limitations in New York prohibits them from filing civil claims. Nearly all of the claims involve childhood abuse that happened years or decades ago.

The church does not confirm how much has been paid out in total compensation.

But earlier reports note that the church has paid millions in compensation, including $1.5 million to victims of priests who have served in the Lower Hudson Valley.

"We have been told often by victim survivors that they are not predominantly interested in money," Zwilling said. "What they are looking for is an acknowledgement of what they went through, and a tangible sign of the church’s sorrow for what happened to them, for the church to say, 'I'm sorry.'"

"The program is a tangible way for the church to express that," he said. "Based on the feedback that we have gotten from people, the program works. I say that while noting that to date no one has rejected an offer of compensation."

Zwilling said some of the claims filed by yesterday's deadline are still being reviewed to make sure the alleged victims are eligible for compensation.

It is unknown if there will be a third opportunity to file for compensation.

“We will have to assess the first two phases to see how that went," Zwilling said. "And if there’s going to be anything further we will announce it.”

These men are evil, they just pretend to be guided by God's word, they are really servants of twilight and the power of Satan. Even though those on the "progressive" front are celebrating the assaults believing that this is God's following, and it is not, it is Satan's work .

Prior to the 1917 revolution in Russia the way to determine if an individual was mentally insane or possessed by a demon was to pour seven small glasses of water, one of which was holy water. All the glasses of water appeared to be the same. If the individual drank all seven glasses he was sent to the psychiatrist. If he came to the glass of holy water and started foaming at the mouth or went berserk he was sent to the priest. I'm thinking you might need both an exorcism and psychiatric help. You might consider that the reason Satan is attacking the Roman Church is because of the good she is doing and has done in the past, and your Catholic bashing only assists the father of lies. One of the topics on today's menu of subjects is how many Protestant Churches are celebrating, embracing, even ordaining, openly homosexuals, transsexuals, and all the rest of the perverted alphabet soup. Once again, I remind you that I am not a Roman Catholic! Why would Satan not attack Christianity?

Cannot disagree that there is a special place in hell for anyone who abuses children and even a hotter place for clergy. Scripture is very clear regarding clergy who lead people astray. But there are more clergy that are faithful in their call to serve Christ and His flock than these degenerates. Don't brand them all with the same hot iron.

I didn't, the courts decide.

Unfortunately, the church has little recourse, since in numerous cases they were aware of it and just "shuffled the deck chairs".

You never ever miss a golden opportunity to keep your venomous mouth shut do you? You always have need to desecrate. Well sonny, it's going pay you back in spades. Your bigotry, ignorance, false pride and sacrilege will be accountable.

Prove me wrong. There is plenty of evidence knew the abuse was going on and they just "kicked the can down the road". Ludicrous. I'll be more than happy to post any news from any other church, but...this seems to be a problem within the Catholic Church. Time will tell.

In any event, you claim to not be Catholic, why are YOU so concerned about how the church stumbles. From Romans:

1:24-26 "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature"

...and what gives you the right to tell me to keep my mouth shut. Did YOU need to reply?

The reason I challenge you is because a worm like yourself uses scripture as if we're a 2X4 to bash someone over the head. But the only people you bash are Roman Catholics as if you are on a personal crusade believing (falsely) you are a warrior of God sent to slay Satan. You, just like Satan, gleefully love it when you can point out sin in their clergy, as if sexual problems and perversions didn't exist in the Protest Religions. No Catholic church has put their blessing on any of the LGBQ, transsexual, sins as have many Protest groups.

I am a catholic Christian but not a Roman catholic. Orthodox are a catholic faith as I instructed you in the meaning of Catholic as defined by Vincent of Lerins. Remember? Of course you don't remember because you're so ignorant you believe you already know enough. I knew, as many times as I had to remind you that I was not a Roman Catholic and was not getting through your satanic inspired hatred, that it was a useless exercise. You still don't understand. Hatred blinds reason. And lest we forget, someone instructed you in your hatred of the Roman Church. You won't hear the Romans or the Orthodox Catholic clergy teaching hatred towards Protestants but if you attended either churches you would hear them praying that all Christians become one in the love and unity of Christ.

You're a jackass, and definitely a warrior for your own pride.

Let's just see if you keep your yap shut.

I'll never be shut up or shut down by a hateful, Satan serving, bigoted, ignorant (by choice), heretical, schismatic, and sacrilegious individual like you. And every time you attack Catholics, or any other Christians without just cause, I'll be there in your face. What you "think" does not constitute just cause. You've proven you do not have the scholarship or training to form anything but a bigoted hate filled opinion.

I don't care if you don't keep your yap shut. Bring it on.

Thus far your only action has been sitting on your jaybird butt spouting hateful rhetoric out of your mockingbird mouth. Normally I wouldn't take the time to entertain this length of commentary with someone as disagreeable and uninformed as you. But you're a militant religious bigot. I put you in the same mental category as radical Islam, without the killings, and you need to be fought and resisted every single time you attack. I shall be watching to accommodate you and maybe teach you a thing or two in the process.

...and you're not bigot?, well here's more good news, you're a jackass too. I put you in the kookoo category. Tinfoil hat wearing moron.

I see the false mask of your Christian charity is slipping and the reality of the ugly beneath is being exposed. We both knew it was there all the time didn't we? Who taught it to you? Best if you dusted your feet of whoever they are because they're no friend.
