Obama went to college with, and got chummy with the person he eventually married. That person graduated before him and went to work for the Chicago democratic machine. When Obama graduated, that chum advocated for him and he became an organizer for that Chicago machine. That was the beginning. I don't know for sure but I suspect they found him malleable and started positioning him to meet their goals.

That was my impression of Barack 'Barry' Hussein Obama- Michelle's pull toy.
