An Example of Forgiveness

I realize I will get a lot of flak about this video.
I'm expecting the vitriol and off topic comments.

But I hope you will take a look at it anyway.
Not saying this is the rule; it is probably a pretty rare exception.
But it does show what can happen when an appropriate second chance is given.

I would normally say give the kid the death penalty. I'm very conservative. But something changed my mind. I could have done what the black youth Ian had done. I would want a second chance. So, I say give youths under the age of 16 a second chance on down the road. Maybe when they're 30 years old or so.

I hope that this young man seeks God's help to live up to the gift he has received. He should dedicate his life to helping other young people to get their lives straight with God and learn to do good things for other people. If, on the other hand, he decides that white people are evil than this special gift was wasted. Pray that he has learned and honors God's gift with the rest of his life.

"Dedicating his life to helping other young people." Do you have any idea how onerous his life would be? How sheltered, protected and housed? A group of people tending to his every need? Or how short his life would be traveling alone and curing people or preaching to strangers?

I thank God there are people like the wonderful woman who forgave this man. God bless her.

At first, as I watched the video I thought "what a liberal load of crap!" Then as I watched the rest of it, I could understand the compassion victim and assailant had for each other. This wasn't some fairy tale, "let him out right away video." She let him stay in jail for some years. The correspondence was the key that fit the lock to his cell. I understand. While I don't think I could be as forgiving, the video does give me food for thought.

At first I thought this video was going to be a "feelgood" liberal piece of crap. But as I watched the video document the correspondence between this 13-year-old assailant and his victim, I began to understand. The victim did allow him to stay in prison for several years, but then helped him get released. While I don't think I would be quite as forgiving, it does give me food for thought.
