The Bush quote wasn't meant to denigrate him. It was a funny, off-the-cuff remark made in an a difficult situation. I thought it defused the tension of the incident, much to the president's credit. W at his finest.

My point was that the Iraq War was ended on terms set down by George W. Bush, not that Obama "cut and ran". The shoe incident was mentioned because most people remember such antics rather than the real news behind the story.

Dutch, I appreciate your sharing such a personal tragedy. I am SO sorry for what can only be described as an incredible sorrow. I cannot even begin to know the loss of a little one so young. I do know a "little" about your pain, but in a somewhat different sense. My oldest son's first wife contracted HIV from a blood t***sfusion during surgery. They were deeply in love, had looked forward to a long life together, with a home filled with lots of laughter and children, and then darkness descended. My son escaped the abyss, his wife did not. I cannot, will not, tell you to let go of the pain, anguish and anger you feel. Again, I am so sorry for your loss and for your pain. I should have looked past your anger and asked "why."

This is a guy who claims to have been rejected by the USMC because of poor eyesight yet accepted into the Navy with the same poor eyesight WHEN BOTH BRANCHES OF THE MILITARY HAVE USED THE SAME EYESIGHT REQUIREMENTS SINCE AT LEAST 1962, perhaps longer.

Besides, AIDS isn't a "homosexual" disease. Most cases of AIDS today come from unprotected heterosexual activity. Worldwide, the spread of aids has always been predominately from unprotected heterosexual activity.

You are correct, Aids is not isolated to our homosexual community. It is spread primarily by sexual contact, but you can also get it from saliva or blood. My heart aches for people who suffer from Aids. It is cruel and devastates families. Over 21 million people have died and it is estimated that another 37 million are infected. No, I do not think that it is the wrath of God. I think that it was manufactured and further I think that it is not under control and is genetically mutating and will appear soon in another form. I can not find any statistical information to support your claim that it is primarily spread through heterosexual relations. Every report, medical journal, or physician reference books still puts the primary spread as unprotected sex between males. Although it can be spread woman to woman and from an infected to a non-infected in heterosexual relations. If you have a source for your information, I would be most interested in reading it.

I've heard it was the unintended consequences of one researcher's attempts at a polio v*****e (not Jonas Salk) and heard other stories about research in Africa-none confirmed.

It once was, in the US a "homosexual disease" but i don't think that's true any longer. Maybe it is, but most cases I hear of in the US are young women, usually poor, who have had sex with IV drug users. Maybe that's all I see, but with the actual death rate of HIV infection going down, the story is less prevalent that it was a few years ago.

It seems that young people think less of the seriousness of the disease because it's no longer a death sentence. I wonder if these you people think about the cost or the long term effects of the drugs they must take for long periods of time. Probably not.

Worldwide, homosexual contact has never been the largest source of infection. And IV drug users, who are still a major source of infection in the US and world wide.

I'm not sure about saliva unless there's blood in the saliva.

I had 11 t***sfusions in 1988 after an accident. I turned up with Hep. C after two years. Doctor's said it was either from the t***sfusions or from my time in the USMC in the 1968-1970 period, most likely from the t***sfusion. And I worried about AIDS with each of those 11 pints went into my arm.

Hep B and C is much easier to t***smit than AIDs, which is rather difficult to t***smit, according to my doctors. And tens, if not thousands, of millions have Hep. C. Yet is rarely gets the publicity that AIDS does.
