Air Force could recall up to 1,000 retired pilots after Trump order.

"The Air Force could recall up to 1,000 retired pilots after President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at addressing what the Pentagon has described as an "acute shortage of pilots." The order, which Trump signed Friday, amends an emergency declaration signed by George W. Bush after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. Under current law, the Air Force is limited to recalling just 25 pilots. The order signed by Trump temporarily removes that cap for all branches of the military. A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Cmdr. Gary Ross, said in a statement that the Air Force is currently "short approximately 1,500 pilots of its requirements." "We anticipate that the Secretary of Defense will delegate the authority to the Secretary of the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots for up to 3 years," Ross said. "The pilot supply shortage is a national level challenge that could have adverse effects on all aspects of both the government and commercial aviation sectors for years to come."

In August, Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson confirmed that the service was short 1,555 pilots of its requirements, including 1,211 fighter pilots. At the time, Wilson announced the Air Force was increasing incentive pay to officers and enlisted crew members for the first time in 18 years. The service also expanded its aviation bonus program to apply to include pilots who were out of contract."

I agree, it is alarming. I have no answers for you, Doc. Though it does seem to have plenty of ammo for conspiracy theories.

Good point, Bob. Maybe the retirees are the only ones that know where the spare parts are, and how to fix'em.

Ipn: These toys you call them are very expensive; Just like the new toys the boys have gone to fly! I've done both! You call them toys!......The t***h of the matter is until you start compensating such extremely sk**led Aviators to fly extremely complicated equipment; you will find yourself unable to feed the serfs that are quickly eating up the budget! We must maintain our defense!....It's one of the major pillars of our Government's responsibility! We are quickly becoming a Nation of people who don't have the capacity or smarts to play with such essential equipment(Toys!) How are we to maintain our National interest? Understand? .....Naw....I didn't think so! Neither did the previous Administration, and I'm using that statement loosely!

T
he Republican candidates who scorn President Obama for ravaging the military and strangling its cash flow should take a close look at his budget for 2017. Released Tuesday by the White House and the Pentagon, it falls only a few billion dollars short of the largest defense budget since the start of the century—and that slightly bigger budget was Obama’s as well.

You could check the defense budget, but that would destroy your fantasies.
