And then I added:

As I said once to Roger Penrose, when he commented that I had "God-given mathematical insights": "Sometimes those God-given mathematical insights are not God-given at all. That is why mathematicians use abstract reasoning to "prove" them." Well, sometimes those deep "personal conversion experiences" are not God-given. And why they are known as "mystic experiences". How can they be "proven".

I believe evangelicals have perverted the Pauline Doctrine of "Justification by Faith"; instead substituting an "assurance" of everlasting life, which is not what St. Paul meant at all.
