I must have missed something, who are you talking about? If I search for America's sweetheart, I come up with Courtney Love and I doubt this is about her.

I'll take a stab at this one. I think he feels that President Obama deliberately slighted Shirley Temple because she is white. I'm guessing he feels that Whitney Houston was honored because she is black. My guess is that Shirley Temple is less known to President Obama, because her stardom was in the 30s and 40s, not because of her race.

For sure there are people who will miss BOTH Shirley Temple AND Whitney Houston. They were 2 talented American icons. It's not like the public has to choose between one or the other.
