Okay, to reign in the ridiculous federal debt, we need tax increases from the right and spending cuts from the left. Republicans are offering an honest increase in taxes on the rich, do we hear any offers of real spending cuts in the bloated federal welfare programs from the left?

Just to be clear, what "welfare" programs do you want to cut?

And be specific.

Remember most of the cosnervativeteaparty are already collecting SS and Medicare. Some are on Medicaid.
They are "getting theirs" and don't have to worry about cuts.
But many of them have children or grandchildren, and when the conservativeteaparty hears that THEIR children or grandchildren won't get the "benefits or entitlements", they get downright upset and nasty.

So it is good that you realize raising taxes is sometimes necessary. Sell that idea to grover, the fools at faux and fat limburg, along with aforementioned teapartyconservatives

First, we could make major cuts to Medicade by stopping it from going to i******s. Next step would be to move SS from 62/65 to 72/75, by increasing the age to draw by one year each two or three years, .... and of course, making sure no i******s draw a SS check. Not popular, but doable.

Your comment about someone caring about their children's or grandchildren's income is BS, since they haven't yet d**gged Obama out of the Whitehouse for a good tar and feathering, over his trillions of added debt, on which they will at least pay exorbitant interest.

Making stupid comments about the president cost you your credibility

And as to your suggestion of raising the age to 72 or 75.
What kind of work will folks that age be able to do? Construction and trucking and logging and the military?
Highly doubtful.
Plus the greed of the corporate elite would continue the practice of outsourcing, unless they are stopped.

One thing is certain, YOU will never have to worry about paying taxes.

You actually have to be gainfully employed, and not a teapartyconservative sucking out SS and Medicare

You do show your ignorance and lack of credibility, Jester.

At 67, I still work, and have friends in their 70s who are still working. Most are staunch conservatives, ... I wonder if that has something to do with their work ethos. As a matter of fact, I now realize that all of them have, as I have, for most of their lives worked at more than one job.

Guess what, it is not all about you. If you are still working, good for you. But the physical demands of some jobs, like roofers, commercial painters and OTR truckers don't allow all to work.
And the real question is, have you and your friends "retired" and returned to the work force, or are you and friends forced to work? Since you have passed 65, it seems to be voluntary on your part.

It is about me. I'm, and my friends are, proof that if you want to work, you can. I know a commercial painter that is still working at 76. He lives about three houses from me. At 73, another friend is a CDL truck driver, with HazMat endorsement. Sorry, don't have a roofer to mention, but had a home builder acquaintance who actively roofed until he died at 93. Working until death keeps us active and young.

Yes, working is voluntary for me. I buy a new pickup truck about every three years, and take nice vacations. The main reason I work is just in case the s**thead in the Whitehouse succeeds in in his ideal of screwing up this country, I'll have some extra money for food, and other survival needs.

Welfare is not earned. Those on social security, medicare, etc earned it by paying into the fund for many years. We all know that you are aware of this, but your brain has to work very hard to attempt to rationalize your foolish behavior. Why not just give up and admit you cannot formulate a rational argument for this topic because there isn't one.

Vernon, while SS has been promoted as being a type of retirement insurance, it isn't. As it is presently set up, SS recipients receive more than is paid in, by employee and employer, plus interest. Once the contributions, plus interest are expended, it becomes welfare paid by the taxpayers. In actuality, SS is a democrat Ponzi scheme to buy v**es, much like everything else the democrats do.
