I do not think much of this article. I found it amusing, but rambling and stupid. It seems like a very tedious exercise in imprecise mathematics. Someone is giving himself a hell of a cushion on his predictions. " we can apply Gott's 95 percent confidence formula to arrive at an estimate of when the human race will go extinct: between 5,100 and 7.8 million years from now. "
Now that is funny. We will go extinct in 5100 to 7.8 million years. Kind of like a snow fall prediction of 2 to 20 inches.

I do not know the authors of this piece, but I am guessing they are more of your type than mine. I dislike the misuse of science and math. The human race could vanish today or a billion years from now. This piece does nothing to clarify that. Just as your side with their G****l W*****g predictions of doom when none of us will be here to know if they are right.

We all die. There are two things that make that bearable. First is the belief in God and an afterlife. The second is our children and grandchildren. The comfort that we are leaving part of ourselves behind even though we die. To be the last generation of humanity would be intolerable.
I know Atheists who do not believe in having children because of how horrible the world is and because they believe that carrying children and giving birth is all just a Patriarchal plot to ens***e women. These pathetic creatures are the last generation of their families and have created their own hell.
