Good afternoon Administrator.
I have read your post (2 times) and would like to voice my opinion. First, I do support your intent to operate a forum which displays common courtesy and civility and is free from foul language. However in general, I, as are most Americans, am strongly opposed to censorship.At the same time, I, like yourself have noticed an increase in the use of four letter words, which in my opinion is completely unacceptable in any media format. I also am dismayed to see the same usage in print in many of the news medias. I do not claim to be an angel and could have written the book on pirate language, however there is a time and place for it, and it certainly is not on a forum , especially in mixed company and in print. Therefore I do support the ban of that kind of language on this forum. As to insults , we are now getting into a dangerous area regarding freedom of speech. We all know that insults are not constructive in anyway other way than to brew more insults. However I think most people will have a problem with being censored for this because we all know the end result. The Soviet Union was a fine example. Who is to decide what the difference is between insults and criticism. At all costs, thought control must be rejected.
Hopefully this post can be used as a basis for some in depth discussion between you and the posters regarding reasonable guidelines. I think I can speak for everyone , that we appreciate being able to have discussions on this forum.

The difference between insults and criticism is painfuly obvious after certain individuals post because, the thread becomes a repetitive trade of scurrilous insults both ways. There is no longer any attempt by most posters to express an opinion or continue the discussion. There are also those who interject gratuitous insults or propaganda, not even remotely connected to the topic. One in particular does this multiple times within a thread even though he is ignored and this is an obvious attempt to derail discussion.

What Admin has proposed doing is long past due because this foum has becom a total time waster.

Pafret, yes the difference is usually obvious to most of us. But I say let the mud slingers self destruct as they most always do. We are already entering a dangerous ground in this country, most recently with California wanting to impose jail time for use of the wrong pronoun. All country's that try this speech and thought control,end up with a totalitarian government sooner or later. That is exactly the thing that most of us on this forum (with some obvious exceptions)are fighting against. What about the so called h**e speech? Now in this country if I say I don't like a certain group because they are insane k**lers I can be prosecuted. I am really disappointed in the lack of participation in my post to the Admin. Looks like a sign of the apathy stage of the fall of an Empire.

Your post requires some thought and that is in short supply on this forum. I would have expected Admin's announcement to set off a firestorm but we seem to have an overabundant supply of apathy. Maybe when some of these fools get dumped they will wake up. Of course, the fools who engage in this behaviour know what they are doing so this may be the knock on the head they need.

Pafret: You are REALLY REALLY right! 241 views of Admin post, 73 views of my post= total 314. Three comments, 2 or which were irrelevant, and your comment. That's one out of 314 showing concern for perhaps the most dangerous thing a free Republic can face. Does not bode well for the future of our country.

I agree with you to a point, but I believe that we must have rules. OPP has become not a place of free speech but a place to promote aggression. Civil discussion seems almost impossible with some individuals who seem to "live" on OPP. This is one reason so many of the serious minded individuals have abandoned this site.

As for Admin's participation on this thread, there are few moderators and hundreds of threads, so do not hold out too much hope they will respond to your concerns in a thread. If you send them a PM (and you can send it to multiple people) you may have better luck receiving a response. I do not think their decision to "clean up OPP" is open to discussion, the mediators have made up their minds.

It is my opinion that the application of the "h**e" terminology is simply another attempt to control behaviour and speech. It is the assumption of a faux, moral high ground, to provide a bully pulpit, in silencing others and is a favorite tactic of the socialist/c*******t cabal. There are many things I h**e, as well as many people I have known and I don't really care if my speaking out against those things offends you. Get over it, you don't live on this planet all alone.

To be Biblical about it, if my written words offend you, gouge out YOUR eyes and if my speech offends you, cut off YOUR ears; you do not have to read or hear what I publish. That said, there are far too many posters here whose only purpose is to destroy discourse. Either because they want to silence others or they insist that every post be diverted to their specific interests whether it is on topic or not.
