There Was A Time In America...

When good men did NOT fail to act in the face of evil.

I am thinking about the government of America's reaction to the Sand Creek Massacre. As you know, there was a Congressional Investigation shortly after.

"As to Colonel Chivington, your committee can hardly find fitting terms to describe his conduct. Wearing the uniform of the United States, which should be the emblem of justice and humanity; holding the important position of commander of a military district, and therefore having the honor of the government to that extent in his keeping, he deliberately planned and executed a foul and dastardly massacre which would have disgraced the veriest savage among those who were the victims of his cruelty. Having full knowledge of their friendly character, having himself been instrumental to some extent in placing them in their position of fancied security, he took advantage of their in-apprehension and defenceless condition to gratify the worst passions that ever cursed the heart of man.

Wh**ever influence this may have had upon Colonel Chivington, the t***h is that he surprised and murdered, in cold blood, the unsuspecting men, women, and children on Sand creek, who had every reason to believe they were under the protection of the United States authorities, and then returned to Denver and boasted of the brave deed he and the men under his command had performed.

In conclusion, your committee are of the opinion that for the purpose of vindicating the cause of justice and upholding the honor of the nation, prompt and energetic measures should be at once taken to remove from office those who have thus disgraced the government by whom they are employed, and to punish, as their crimes deserve, those who have been guilty of these brutal and cowardly acts."

By the Congressional Joint Committee on the Conduct of the War, 1864.

Times change. Ovomit's (and Clinton's and their cohorts and minions) atrocities in Syria, and his instigation and furtherance of strife and conflict across the Middle East and North Africa, remain uncontested by the "good men" in America. These "good men" of today are cowardly and unintelligent.

And since Trump's avowed goal is to attempt to raise the honor and prestige of America in the eyes of the world, he will never right the wrongs of America. He is weak.

And one way Trump believes he can raise the honor and prestige of America in the eyes of the world, is to use myself to try to trap The Ghost. Ain't gonna work, Trump. You are a weakling who will use anyone to get what you want, no matter who gets hurt.

Remember, folks, that Ovomit f**ed the k*****g of Osama Bin Laden; he was baited by the al-Qeada leader, and k**led a Bin Laden look-alike. Ovomit thought he could then install the Taliban as the governing body in Afghanistan and get out. But the Taliban are not reliable leaders for that country, and I would not help Ovomit find Bin Laden. Or any country, for that matter.

Ever hear the phrase "you can get used to anything"? It turns out to be true. The Western allies cheered in WWII, to hear of the wholesale slaughter of civilians in German towns. We bombed the crap out of things during that war, knowing there were innocent s***e laborers in those facilities. It's the hidden cost of war. Nothing has changed in our attitude, only the tools have changed. How many friendly fire deaths have there been in the 21st century? It seems our pinpoint accurate weapons, aren't that accurate after all, it's just a PR campaign to make US civilians feel a little less like murderers.

We bombed the hell out of an empty airfield in Syria, as an objection to using chemical weapons that k**led " beautiful little babies ", yes? Those babies had been blown apart for years before and after the chemical attack............and we didn't object. Why not? Well, the simple fact is............we were blowing up little babies too, and it would make us look bad if we objected to someone else doing it. Our returning Vietnam Vets had a hard road, due to the medias exaggeration of the atrocities committed during that war, being called "baby k**lers" and what not. Barely 40 years later, the same people have gotten used to blowing little babies to pieces, and are bored by the whole thing. How many videos have been shown of dead children being pulled from the rubble in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen and all the other places the United States is spending billions to bomb into submission? All of these atrocities are being sold to the US public, as a necessary adjunct to - making them safer from terrorists. Trillions have been spent so far, with no end in sight.................while Americans are slaughtering other Americans at a rate that terrorists only dream of.

Yes, we can get used to anything.

There's hope for you. You're not spot on, but close.

I watched a film years and years ago about prison guards in some South American prison, and how they become accustomed to their power and brutality, so that they are no longer appalled by it. They are also given films to watch, to accustomize them to it.

I've thought of the violent TV shows the youngsters in America watch, day in and day out. And the video games. Don't you wonder if they, too, become accustomed to violence?

One other thing: some who play video games hour after hour, where reality is no longer reality, but only cartoons on some electronic gadget, find themselves believing that what actually IS real, is only a cartoon.

I'm glad you brought this up. I was thinking about it just a few days ago.

Not too long ago, I saw some adults gathered around one of their phones, laughing at a video of some stuff floating in flood waters. Thinking they were laughing at people's pets and/or cattle that drowned, I went over to give them a piece of my mind, but what I saw them laughing at rendered me speechless...............it was a video of drowned humans.......Americans that drowned.........a whole family that drowned together......... Mother, Father and 5 children............and they thought this was FUNNY.

I have given up hope that Americans will ever again be the people they were meant to be, it's all an unfortunate illusion...............available for viewing on YOUtube for our amusement. Common decency and respect for human life is a bizarre and obscure concept, some archaic and silly idea that our ancient forebears held. Thank God we have become civilized, no longer held hostage by such ridiculous concepts, yes?

America was once a great nation. It is in decline. Trump thinks he can raise her image in the eyes of the world but he is going about it the wrong way. Instead of admitting her wrongdoings in the past 60 or 70 years, he is trying to strong arm world leaders into believing America is the sole superpower without whom the world is lost. As I walk the streets of Colorado Springs, and see people, adults as well as children, walking towards me plugged into their phones, I'm wondering who in their right minds would even think Americans are "astute" enough to be a force for good in the world. Those phones give them a constant bombardment of the product of someone else's mind, usually a Liberal's. When do these "people" even think?

America was once a great nation. It is in decline... (show quote)

I believe you are correct in this. When America WAS a great Nation, her people WORKED very hard to become such, and were vigilant in the efforts to remain so. The accolades, truly due, received after winning WWII, gave people a sense of manifest destiny, an entitlement to the claim of being the greatest nation on earth............and they became lazy, apathetic and pretty much worthless. The "make America great again" slogan, was only that, a slogan, because you cannot become great AGAIN...........by reminding everyone at the point of a blade, that you ARE great.

Our forebears made America a mighty nation, by hard work, sacrifice and minding their own damn business. We lost that momentum the moment we decided we were great enough, that the world owed us some s**t, and we were going to get what we were due by wh**ever means necessary and when we decided that we were masters of the known universe and were going to start running some s**t. When was the last time America truly won anything? One need only watch a local news broadcast, to determine that we are the LAST people to be telling other folks how to live their lives in peace and harmony. We have become a nation of know-it-all, entitled little whiny jackasses.

Basically called collateral damage. There will always be that damage in war, to think any different is insanity. No such thing as antiseptic war; where no one gets hurt but the combatants. Crazy thinking invented by the Democrat liberals to achieve their agenda.

As long as you're thinking about it, think about this. Your liberal friends are the ones who brought all this movie mayhem to the screen and into our homes; are you happy about this? it appears you might be stressed just a tad but not much because it's liberal programming.

How blind and ignorant you liberals are, you Democrat Obama lovers of evil that you all are. We will win by the grace of GOD and GODs hand moving Trump to eradicate the Sodom and Gomorrah you democrat liberals created for their own self serving privileges.

Uhuh, the sound of one the minions we're talking about here. To many, the 3000 dead after 9/11 were collateral damage. How does that sound to you, like it? Who made YOU the arbiter of what constitutes collateral damage, and what are acceptable numbers?

Here's some reality for you, not that I expect you to comprehend it, but still;

Afghans did not attack America, the Taliban did not attack America - we attacked Afghanistan and went to war with the Taliban............and continued the war AFTER Bin Laden was k**led.

Iraqi's did not attack America, Saddam was in the pocket of the CIA for years and years - we attacked Iraq, k**led Saddam - and helped create ISIS in the process.

The war in Syria began BEFORE ISIS declared a Caliph**e - a war to convince Assad to stop k*****g his own people - the US is responsible for as many civilian deaths as......Assad.

The US has k**led three times as many civilians in Yemen, as they have "terrorists".

Since we began the "war on terror", terrorism activity has increased 2000% - you think that's a coincidence? You think we're "winning" the war on terror? The United States of America is responsible for MORE innocent lives lost, in direct and indirect military operations............than the terrorists are that we're "fighting".

Collateral damage my ass. The reputation of America is collateral damage here............and is unacceptable.

Interesting you should post this. This morning, as I was coming into the library, I overheard some young man explaining a video to another young man, saying something like "This will help explain America's values to the world; how only in America is there an ideology of complete freedom that other nations do not have." Something like that.

So I couldn't help saying: "Oh good. America's going to save the world again. Pretty soon the whole world is going to be in a moral toilet."

I wonder if the kid was gay.

Addendum:
The American-Stupids don't understand the difference between freedom and licentiousness, or that one cannot be truly free without having individual responsibility. And self-reliance.
