National Public Radio (@NPRNews) Misrepresents Facts to Fan Racial Tension

By: Erick Erickson

On February 6, 2014, NPR listeners heard this report about the v****g rights act. A portion of the story involves Macon, GA, where I live. NPR did its listeners a great disservice in how it presented the story. But don’t believe partisan conservative me. An attorney for the local Democratic Party is calling foul too.

As Dave Oedel, the local Democratic Party attorney (who, being that Macon is Macon and it is a small world, is also my neighbor and constitutional law professor from law school), points out a number of facts that directly contradict the premise of the NPR story.

In the broadcast, the reporter, who is also local to Macon, suggests Republicans trampled the rights of black v**ers in Macon, GA to suppress black v**er turn out in recent local e******ns.

In fact, v**er turnout across the newly consolidated Bibb County, of which Macon is a part, was 51%, which exceeded the November 2010 e******n turn out. Moreso, the local districts were drawn to reflect a majority black population.

What is most troubling is the implication that two black candidates lost to to white candidates because of some sort of r****t shenanigans. NPR “reports”

In the odd-month e******n that followed, some competitive black candidates for mayor and commission seats lost to white opponents.

“There’s certainly a lot happening in Macon-Bibb County,” said Gilda Daniels, a former attorney in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and now a law professor at the University of Baltimore.

“I can certainly see a Section 2 challenge based on the change in e******n date,” she said.

One of those white candidates, Mayor Robert Reichert, won even in overwhelmingly black precincts. The other candidate, Rabbi Larry Schlesinger, won a district that had a 60% black v****g age population — and has consistently won in black districts. The NPR reports leaves out that the Schlesinger race did result in litigation started by the losing black candidate, Henry Ficklin. Ficklin won his case and a new e******n was ordered in which he lost again.

NPR seemingly suggests that black v**ers are being suppressed in Macon, GA because white candidates won in majority black districts. It seems foreign to NPR that perhaps black v**ers might have v**ed for the white guys — which is actually what happened.

There are plenty of problems with race in America and in Middle Georgia. But the recent local e******ns were not part of the problem. A majority of black and white v**ers in Bibb County, Georgia united behind a number of candidates, some of whom were black and some of whom were white.

But NPR chose to engage in advocacy journalism — starting with how it wanted the story to end and shaping the facts to get there. As Dave Oedel pointed out in his recent local newspaper column:

I learned that NPR’s characterization of Macon e******ns as being controlled under the radar by r****t w****s was constructed out of a pastiche of slightly misstated facts and law, unencumbered by explicit expert local analysis. It was the work of Adam Ragusea with Macon’s local NPR affiliate. Supporting his NPR piece, Ragusea quoted two distant law professors who told me later they knew little or nothing firsthand about Macon politics except what Ragusea told them.

I tend to listen to NPR in the mornings and afternoons for a change of pace. But this is just another example of NPR skewing facts to support the comfortable liberal opinions of the bulk of its listeners.

NPR is r****t in much of the things they do. Oh yeah, forgot, only w****s can be r****t. There never was a r****t black or brown person. Jessie and Al are not r****t right?

The Black Panthers are not r****ts right? They would NEVER try to suppress the white v**e right? Phy PA would never rig the v**e count so 140% of the registered v**ers v**ed for the black guy and the white guy did not get a single v**e, right?

I have a friend that works in the ER of the big Medical Center in Spokane, WA - they tell me that the vast majority of everyone that comes through the door are single, low income teenage mothers pregnant or with babies.. that is their primary care doctor and location and its getting worse as the months go by. Friend said its a cross between Hispanic and White welfare families with others mixed in but they are the majority. Next largest group are female crack addicts on welfare and that the ER is also their primary doctor and care facility and that is growing faster then the unwed mother problem. They noted that like any big medical facility with ER and for trauma they have about everything under the sun that comes through the doors and they treat, but they are becoming overwhelmed by the above and its a financial burden on the medical system and getting worse. When she told me what she was making as a certified paramedic and nurses aid I was shocked, noting the salaries here were much higher. She said yes but they are strapped for money for employees with the continual rise of no pay or minimal pay numbers we treat.

On another part of the discussion.. our company is small 4 full time people 3 part time husband and myself. We have had no insurance since they cancelled us 5 years ago for not enough younger aged employees to insure all but 1 are 40 years old or older.. we are in a field that sees little to applicants in younger ages due to the experience needs in specialty woodworking and hand made items. We have tried for years to get personal coverage and they have blacked balled us because of erroneous information in my medical file - my doctor wrote a letter to the main facility where all the files are stored that the underwriters request to review, advising that I was NOT Diabetic, I did not have high blood pressure mine is always right on normal, I did not have 2 hip replacements and 2 knee replacements .. I had one knee replaced other than seasonal allergies I was very healthy . The last 2 underwriters I talked to told me very bluntly true or not insurance companies by law did not have to insure anyone if they did not want to and they did not want to take a risk all the so called erroneous info in my file was true vs a big mistake. One told me off the record it happens all the time and they usually will not back down if the applicant is over 45 .. younger they usually with insure at a higher premium.

When Obamacare went live I did sign up and I did combine a lot of information of deceased relatives (grandparents/parents both sides) so they could not tract back to me as I did not trust them then and certainly do not now. What I entered as health care records was accurate.. age, height, weight, knee replacement etc and checked on purpose the fact I have pre-existing as of 2 years ago when I was diagnosed with SLE LUPUS. My quote for insurance just for me with lupus as a
pre-existing condition to keep the monthly premium down I had a $16,000 deductible and an $876 monthly payment. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that .. so I did both.

Husband, my father, daughter did not believe me but I had printed off the pages as they unfold on screen here. And down the road I've talked with friends and acquaintances online that ran into very similar numbers being over age 45 , middle class salaries with both working now that kids were grown and gone and all are uninsured at this point due to the costs.

My 29 yr old daughter called me other day to say we finally have the new insurance with a company that is inline with what obamacare demands we must have.. and read me all the BS.. she said the agent advised to take the highest deductible now as she is 6 months pregnant to get covered for her labor and delivery and any complications ... their deductible for a family of 3 - husband is 34, she is 29 and their daughter will be 3 in April, all in perfect health is $6,000 .. I said that's not bad .. she said MOM.. that for each or $18,000 for the family .. NOW I believe what they quoted you
I said $18,000 .. yes and the worst part she said is it all has to be used for me to be covered for maternity we have to pay out $18000 between now and end of May and it cannot go on one person.. everyone has to satisfy some % of their own 6,000.00 its very insane and confusing .

My older called to talk over weekend and she said thank goodness her husband works for a large division of Toyota International or their new family policy would have been too much for them to afford with their combined salaries of $72,000. She was furious saying they look at your net figure which is ridiculous you don't bring home that much.. after taxes and then mortgage, and living expenses you know how tight we live with the cost of raising one child in preschool presently.. this is insane.

YEP they are both right and this is out to make the middle class pay for all those that can't or flat out won't and bankrupt this country at the same time.

I have heard the same story over and over from people on Tv, to forums such as this and the list goes on and on , to personal friends and relatives. My father a widower in his late 80's said his medicare (NOT MEDICADE) has been cut back.. and the premiums on his supplemental have doubled and he has been notified by the administration of the private pension he gets being part of the printers unions which is company/employee self pay no government subsidizing like Teacher's Unions and Government workers unions etc.. has been taking a loss and due to some new governmental laws on private union pension funds, he stands to loose over a $1000 a month in his benefits. Yet he remains a die hard socialist democrat crying about what they are taking he worked for and has been taxed on at least once already !

What will it take for people to wake up ?

I have friends of many different cultures, so I was surprised to see some r****m in my neighborhood. One day I was passing the breeze with my neighbor Jesus and all of a sudden, he went off on a rant about how the "N-word deleted"s were moving into our town and ruining everything! I guess I'm naive but I thought the r****m was only either white against some other race, or some other race against white. Just didn't occur to me that it goes every direction.

Yep. Not sure this is their beginning, though. :-) I would like to suggest that people who haven't already done so, visit this link: http://www.cpb.org/aboutpb/faq/cpbpbsnpr.html
I had assumed these organizations were under one umbrella, but if there is any t***h at this site, such is not the case. You might find it interesting.

I fully understand that, him being born and raised until his late 20's in Scandinavia and their Socialist systems .. and he refers to how well it works there all time, ignoring that was over 60 plus years ago and they are having a lot of problems in Scandinavia due to the huge Drug culture there for the freebies and the Radical Islamic immigration into those countries.

The NPR comment is about race and its about specifically about Race Baiters which they are. Myself like many have tried over and over not to view this whole Obamacare issue as race baiting and racially driven.. But the fact is that is is BOTH. This is a very open move to destroy the white middle and upper middle class of this country and to take from us as much as they can if not all and give to the non w****s as free as much as possible. It's moving slowly but the backlash is coming because not all of the B****s, Hispanics and other non -white see this as a plus they see it like we do as an attack on the middle and upper middle class of the USA..

That isn't true. When I learned to drive it was a manual t***smission, no seat belt, no county speed limits etc. I still drive but I had to learn new things. Changing our minds, ways and direction is an ability humans have.

It is this "all or nothing" mentality that prevents people from facing facts. Saying, "well if THIS is wrong then EVERYTHING is wrong" is pretty narrow minded.

yep and this country is full of them and they come in all ages, all ethic and race groups and all income levels... so how is that changed... by enslaving all of them and when they cry about it when its too late they will still refuse to admit they were the biggest help in creating the situation and blame in on anyone but themselves.

No doubt about that. Taking personal responsibility is not a national trait. As long as everybody blames everybody else - then no one is to blame, pretty cool huh?

Is it maybe because Georgia like many other states changed the v****g laws to making it more difficult for the poorer, less educated and less likely to have the documentation necessary to v**e?
