It was downgraded this morning to a Cat 4, still a very large hurricane.

There is no such thing as a category 6 storm, nor will there ever be. Storms are rated based on the amount of damage they cause. Category 5 means total devastation. What comes after total devastation?

Reminds of one of the best movies ever. Point Break. The remake. Not the original. That movie is one huge adrenaline rush from beginning to end. And nothing in that movie was special effects. It was all real.

Point Break brings back good memories. One day when I was in the Peace Corps in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa I was reading the International Herald Tribune with a cup of coffee in a cafe when I saw a group of American Sailors in uniform wandering down the street. As they passed I said hello. They came over and we got acquainted. They were from the U.S.S LaSalle. They indicated that they wanted to buy some souvenirs but didn't speak French. I told them I would be their guide and interpreter. We had a great time. When it came time for them to return to their ship they invited me to chow. How could I refuse? After we ate they ask if I wanted to see a real American movie in English. Well, sure!. I was unfamiliar with the films so I ask which one was the best they had. They all agreed "Point Break". Great movie and great company. I still have the belt buckle and the lighter they gave me. Great memories. Thanks a million for reminding me.

Point Break brings back good memories. One day whe... (show quote)

My favorite part of the movie was when they were climbing that waterfall. Not sure if that was in the original movie. If you haven't seen the remake yet, I strongly encourage you to watch it. I think it was better than the original. You can probably find it on fmovies.is it's free. You don't even have to sign up

Mr. B, hurricanes are rated on wind speed. Damage they can do can't be determined until they've passed. Mike

We here in Va. had hurricane Isabel roaring ashore as a cat 5 storm,165 mph winds. At the last minute weather conditions changed and she came ashore just under a cat 1 storm. 70 mph winds gusting to 100mph. Would have been no big deal for this area except we had had a month and a half of almost daily rain. The destruction from falling trees and downed power line was devastating. Power outages in some neighborhoods went for a month. Buildings destroyed, again not from wind but trees. My wife and I were going to evacuate but she had just had a fib/tib compound fracture, was held together with a fixator and no way I could accommodate trying to flee with her in that condition. Turned out we didn't need to. But if that storm had come through as a cat 5 we'd both be dead. Mike

Once again, a category 5 storm equals total destruction. Doesn't matter how fast the winds are. There is nothing worse than total destruction. Therefore, no such thing as a category 6. Or am I missing something?
