USS John McCain collision near Singapore; 10 Sailors Missing

by 1776 Coalition
August 21, 2017
Diving operations are set to begin on Monday as American, Singaporean and Malaysian armed forces search for the 10 missing U.S. sailors after an early-morning collision between a Navy destroyer and a tanker near Singapore — the second collision involving a Navy ship in the Asia-Pacific region in two months.

U.S. Navy officials told Fox News diving operations will begin inside the flooded compartments aboard USS John S. McCain. USS America, a large amphibious assault ship, arrived in the Singapore port near the stricken Navy destroyer and will lead the diving efforts, officials said.

The Navy said five sailors were hurt in Monday’s collision between the USS John S. McCain and the 600-foot Alnic MC, an oil and chemical tanker. The four who required additional treatment were taken by helicopter to Singapore, where the McCain had been headed.

One of the injured, Operations Specialist 2nd Class Navin Ramdhun, posted a Facebook message saying he was OK and awaiting surgery for an arm injury. He told The Associated Press that he was sleeping at the time of the collision and is not sure what happened.

I am more than a little suspicious as to the circumstances behind these two ships being rammed. Both US ships WERE HIT by the other ships. The McCain was hit on the port (left) stern (rear). That gives the McCain the right of way. It should be remembered that none of these boats are small and it take miles to complete a maneuver yet both USN ship were hit, they didn't do the hitting. Why didn't the foreign ships blow a warning horn. Unless you are in a combat zone or expecting attacks you don't necessarily watch your 6 the same way you'll watch your 9,12 and three when at sea. I smell a skunk.

In my opinion we put the world on notice, any vessel that comes within a mile of a US Navy ship and we aim for your water line. One warning and commence firing. Mike

Agree that the USS McCain had the right of way, but if you wee on the road and a fully loaded dual axle tractor trailer was going to clip you, would you take that right of way or change directions and miss it? I'd try to miss it. That Captain will suffer greatly for the collision.

New terrorist tactic perhaps? Both destroyers were hit in the rear sections. Near sleeping sections .

Agree!!! I've been complaining for days about the collisions. The phony media always infers the Navy ship did the colliding. I could attribute it to ignorance on the writer but I actually think it is just one more effort to slam the entire administration.

Latest I've read is possible jamming of GPS and other signals and deliberate ramming of Navy ships by civilian foreign people.
Now, I wish I had confidence that even if it is determined to be deliberate that the word would be put out. PC at all cost, don't ya' know?

Both of the Navy ships were Ageisus Destroyers with the capability to take out ballistic missals. Now both are out of commission. I smell a rat. I agree that I would try to take evasive action but to do that you have to know to do so and with ships this large you don't just step on the gas pedal like with a car and it responds right away. Both ship were hit to the aft (rear) which indicates to me a ramming. Again, I'd put the world on notice that the Navy will blow anyone out of the water if you're within a mile of a vessel. Mike

Not quite true. You are right on McCain, port side aft, apparently a sleeping compartment.
The other one, starboard side just forward of the bridge. Also probably in a berthing compartment.

Either one, I would be very suspicious of intentional ramming.

Nice to go on liberty but if you gotta die for it, it isn't worth it.
Keep the damn ships at sea where they belong and not in some high traffic sea lanes while this ruckus is ongoing with North Korea.
Hope we have 2 more missile k**lers to fill in while these are getting a yard repair.

Even if today's Navy is a little more relaxed and sloppy, I have a hard time believing the crew is that screwed up. BTW, I have stood lookout watch on my submarine, late 50's and we were on our toes.

You're right, one aft port the other starboard forward of the house. Both berthing quarters. 7 lost on Fizt, 10 lost on McCain. Agree, these boats belong at sea. Mike

Don't you think someone should have been on the radar and made someone above him in rank aware that there was a closing ship with a possibility of collision regardless of whoever had the right of way?

I believe I read that there was some snafu with some of that equipment. That is not an excuse as if the case, many more eyeballs should have been posted. Under O, Social training as opposed to Military training was emphasized. Mike

Yes, no radar, take a look around continuously. O was a nightmare I hope we can clean up and fit him into the P**********l rankings at dead last.

Can't disagree that all the military was undergoing some sort of social overhaul. Allowing gay (q***r) persons to openly serve will prove to be a mistake. I hope allowing females to serve doesn't go the same way. Almost anyone could figure out you open up the strong possibility of blackmail.
Really no different on any breach of discipline. Let's imagine, during my shipboard time, I got a bit of info (even not proven) on a shipmate and used it to my advantage, fewer watches, better working conditions, better chance for advancement and a host of other possibilities. This is magnified if I had something on an officer. Can you see why there is no room for anyone that might be called 'different' in the military.

After all a community organizer who never had a real job was by default the commander in chief of all the military. What do you expect? Can you imagine where we would be if Hillary had won? She couldn't even stand the military in uniform around the White House when WJC was prez.
Sure hope the troops survive the fiasco we have allowed to befall them.
