Mark chapter 1

Introduction

Mark was not a disciple. He was a young teenager who hung with Christ and the disciples. According to Acts 15:29, there was contention between Paul and Barnabas over Mark that was strong that they went to different cities.

Verse 1 & 2

God had planned to send Jesus since the garden of Eden. God was speaking of Jesus in Genesis 3:15. Satan motivated the Sanhedrin to get the Romans to crucify Jesus. But Jesus arose three days later. When satan is destroyed, it will be permanent.

Verse 3 & 4

This scripture is found in Isaiah 40:3. Also read Malachi 4:5 & 6. John the Baptist came in the spirit of Elisha. In Malachi 4:6 it says fathers. There is only one father. But when satan comes, he will fool those who think they know God without reading the bible into thinking he is Christ. According to Matthew 24:30 they will be disappointed when Christ returns. Luke 12:40 says Christ will return at an hour when we think not. They will least expect Christ to return when they think he is already here.

Verse 5

Baptism is not in the old testament. It symbolizes being washed of your old sins and being raised in the newness of life. When we first grow up, everything we do is focused on pleasing our flesh. As we mature, doing good for others should become more important. This nation is filled with the useless. They want every idea backed up with scripture and they have no common sense. They expect God to give them what they should provide for themselves. They think they have a relationship with God while electing a government that legalizes drugs, abortion, and same sex marriage.

Verse 6

Hollywood portrays John as a caveman dressed in a camel skin with the hoof still on. The scripture says camel hair. Camel hair is rare and expensive. It’s fibers are hollow so it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It is also waterproof. Most of us wear a girdle of skins around our loins. It’s called a belt. Concerning the end time locust army, a true prophet will eat them for breakfast.

Verse 7 & 8

He is speaking of Jesus. The effect of the baptism of the holy ghost and those that believe is different in the new testament and today. Those that believe should exhibit signs in Mark 16:17 & 18. The holy ghost showed signs in Acts chapter 2. The language spoken was understood by all. Those in Jerusalem at this time spoke at least two languages. They were amazed that they could understand. Peter said they were teaching from Joel. Joel is in the minor prophets. He is found after Hosea but before Amos. Joel is prophetic and applicable to life right now. The bible is not speaking of snake handlers. It is speaking of satanic ideas. You know a tree by it’s fruit. Religion should not lead to rape and murder. If God’s word is sown in your mind, satanic ideas become brought to light.

Verse 9 & 10

In Matthew 3:14 John thought Jesus should baptize him. Jesus came to serve. If we follow Jesus we should more concerned more with what we can give than get.

Verse 11

God was so proud of Jesus that He spoke audibly. Six times in the new testament God calls Jesus His son. In John 12:28 Jesus calls God father and gets an audible reply.

Verse 12 & 13

The accounts in Matthew 4:1 - 11 and Luke 4:1 - 13 have more details.

Verse 14 - 20

Jesus takes up where John left off. He finds 12 disciples and starts teaching in their cities.

Verse 21 & 22

Jesus could make scripture come alive. If you follow Christ you will also. Read Jeremiah 23:28.

Verse 23 - 27

The demons know of Jesus’ power and authority, but the people didn’t. Today we think Christ is in our life, while we ignore every sermon He preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed. This will never work. Jesus says to follow me. If we follow Christ we will go through the same things.

Verse 28 & 29

The people left church, and followed Jesus. The God of the bible and the god in churches that helps you find a mate or job are different. The spirit of the anti-Christ saturates this nation. Anti in Greek means instead of. Instead of listening to Jesus, we let churches teach worship without obedience.

Verse 30 & 31

Peter is said to have founded the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church forbade priests to marry. Peter was married. Make up your own mind.

Verse 32 - 39

Instead of worshipping, we should be uplifting one another. We should be building up and encouraging one another. Jesus improved the lives of those who came to Him.

Verse 40 - 42

Why would the leper say that? I believe he had a moment of introspect. His motives being to gain pleasure or avoid pain. He knows he doesn’t deserve to be healed, but he wants to be healed. Jesus can read minds and knew what the man was going through. Jesus was moved with compassion/

Verse 43 - 45

Leprosy is the only disease that involves a priest. Jesus is making scripture come alive.
