Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday slammed President Donald Trump’s retreat from the world climate stage and challenged fellow Republicans to accept the science that spurred him to push cap-and-trade legislation.

Schwarzenegger held up the bipartisan legislation signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Treasure Island as a powerful signal to Washington that the United States has not pulled back from its environmental commitments, despite Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris accord.

“America did not drop out of the Paris agreement. America is fully in the Paris agreement,” Schwarzenegger said. “The states and the cities in America, the private sector, the academic sector, the scientists – everyone is still in the Paris agreement. There’s only one man that dropped out. But America did not drop out.”

It was 11 years ago that Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 32, setting in motion the cap-and-trade carbon auction system that Brown, legislative Democrats and eight Republicans labored last week to extend for another decade. In 2006, Schwarzenegger won passage of the program with just one GOP v**e.

Schwarzenegger said despite fears from within the Republican Party that the state would hemorrhage jobs and the economy would sputter, neither threat has materialized and the state’s business climate has only improved.

“Don’t those conservative Republicans get the message? And can’t they just think about it for a second and say, ‘maybe we should stop lying to the people.’ Stop lying to the people! Stop it,’ he said.

He referred to Brown as a sk**led politician and “a man that is determined (and) has great vision.”

“I think this is a very important message for Washington, where both of the parties can not work together, to hopefully learn something from this – because all great things happen when both parties work together,” he added.

Cap and trade requires polluters to obtain permits for the greenhouse gases they emit. Emissions are capped, and companies can trade for more capacity through a state-run auction or on the private market. The proceeds go to programs meant to reduce emissions.

Brown pushed for the program to help meet the state’s ambitious greenhouse gas emissions targets – 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.

On Tuesday, he again warned about the perils of inaction and credited a range of industries for their involvement in the climate package, from representatives for oil, agriculture, food processing, and environmentalists.

“Some people say, ‘Oh my God, we don’t like those people,’” Brown said, referring to activists who criticized his deal-making with industry. “Let’s face it: This is California. Our industry, our wealth, our whole well being is the product of all these different individuals and companies and organizations ...”

He touted Schwarzenegger’s leadership on the issue as “pretty amazing, as a Republican (with a) Democratic Legislature.”

“We have Republicans all over the country, (but) only one signed into law a global solutions act that had this cap-and-trade measure (as) part of it ...This is the only law that exists.”

I wonder how much money Arnold has invested it this carbon tax credit business. He and his cronies probably own the CCX program in California. They just plan on getting rich if the program stays in place. In Chicago, the CCX went under, and Obama had a piece of it.

As usual liberal doesn't get it. C*****e c****e is a h**x. --- And part of the g*******t agenda for an unelected ruling elite to manage you like a bunch of sheep. They want you to get accustomed to doing with less. Much less. For example, In time, those new smart meters will be interactive with your air conditioner and it won't be able to come on. You can tell it gets to 78°. All the c*****e c****es have been totally within normal age old fluctuations. These bastard say that it has been decided. But they don't let the tons of scientists who disagree with them have any say. Trump understands this and that's why he said no. Don't worry about it. Because soon everyone will be driving electric cars, but you won't own one. You'll just call for it and it will come to pick you up, recognize you from your chip, you'll punch in your destination and it will deduct the fee from your bank account and it will take you there as you watch the left wing g*******t news on TV.

All that depends on what calculations are used. Very few Republican or Democratic lawmakers will spite their financial sources, by deliberately "costing" them money with any legislation that THEY feel will lower profit potential. It isn't the people that need to be educated with the t***h, so much as the business community folks...who ultimately control what lawmakers do or don't do.

Do not say C*****e C****e, it is G****l W*****g. They started with that and I do not allow them to correct themselves. It is a political movement, , period. G****l W*****g is like r****m. It is another way Liberals exploit White Guilt. Call it environmental guilt. It is still exploiting guilt for political advantage.

No, Arnold doesn't speak for America. But, then, neither does anyone else...to include all Americans. As far as the Logan Act is concerned, there are many, past and present, who should have familiarized themselves with it before their own dealings with foreign government envoys. But, then, why should they? Only two persons in history have been indicted for violations of the Act (in 1803 & 1852) and neither were prosecuted.

The Logan Act (1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799) is a United States federal law that details the fine and/or imprisonment of unauthorized citizens who negotiate with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States. It was intended to prevent the undermining of the government's position. The Act was passed following George Logan's unauthorized negotiations with France in 1798, and was signed into law by President John Adams on January 30, 1799. The Act was last amended in 1994, and violation of the Logan Act is a felony.

The past is irrelevant. Arnold is trying to speak for America obviously because he says so. The present could see the act enforced. There are too many Hollywood types shoving their opinions at too many people. They have one v**e just like you and I and the fact is that celebrity does not make anyone any more correct or their opinion any better than another's.

If Arnold doesn't watch what he says, he could talk himself into a corner.

I value your.opinion more than his.

Interesting new wrinkle.

The GW/CC fanatics have been screaming that the polar ice field is melting and the oceans are rising in direct proportion to the rate of melt. They deny the increase in the southern ice field for various reasons.

NASA just released a report in which they admit that the sea level has been FALLING during the past 2 years.

Kinda shoots down this GW/CC b.s. doesn't it?

Poor Arnold reminds me of the star college player who is drafted high into the NFL only to bomb out. He had so much promise when he first became Caleefornia Guvernor.

Kinda reminds me of a burly college star drafted by the Packers many years ago. He talked big and said he would take the Pack to the super bowl. At training camp in his first interview after a few days of scrimmage he was asked what he thought of his team mates. He said "gee they're fast". He didn't make the team.
